Music services still pretty useful. I'm using deezer for example, it can stream lossless audio and kinda okay with "radio" mode. Used spotify before, but it infuriated me by suggesting same music I already heard for 20-50 times. It's like at some point it just traps you in your own bubble of 100-200 songs.
The alternative would be downloading thousands of albums in flac and uploading to multiple devices. Plus you need to add new music, which includes searching for that mentioned music. So yeah, nah, I'm okay with paying subscription for now. Until they eventually go to shit like video services did. Then we will need to come up with "popcorn time" alternative for music I guess.
I still sticking with Qobuz. 70% of the time I listen to music I try to discover new artists and find obscure stuff. It would be way to time consuming to download random stuff via. Soulseek in hope to find a single track I like. So the discoverability of streaming services is unbeaten.
If I like an Artist, I either download the tracks on Soulseek (Which is pain in the ass in my opinion) or I buy it via. bandcamp to add the to my offline collection.
If I am searching for something I mostly will find it, but only 1/4 of my downloads complete. Most of the time the downloads stuck at the status "queued" and won't download. I have to find at least 4 different sources to get the Track I want. I'm using Nicotine+.
Yes. Always. About 60Gb. Maybe it's the Client but I don't think this will solve the problem but I will try soulseekQt.
Edit: Wow. I think this was the solution! With the OG Soulseek Client every request is downloading within seconds! The Client looks a little bit out of date, but if it works, I don't mind. Surprisingly I get some bot messages every few request to prove I'm human. I never got these kind of messages with Nicotine+. Thank you very much!
Concept is simple. It's searchable p2p file sharing. You have the client, open/filter two ports on your firewall (soulseek qt has a button to check the ports are open), share a folder with media you want to share with others, then start searching for things you'd like. You can filter searches too. I keep my searches filtered to flac files for example.
As a note, some people are weird about you downloading too much in one go, so good rule of thumb is to DL no more than 1 album at a time from someone. Some people are stupid weird about it though and will block access if you queue more than a single file. Just put them on your block list too and unshare from them and move on. It's not worth it to message people like that.
I'm downloading thousands of albums now in a bid to archive and run my own streaming service and let me tell you, I probably won't ever unsubscribe from Tidal.
Not everyone have static IP and device that can work as server. But yeah, it's not like you can't find work around: something like old android phone or spare notebook with pinggy on top would do the trick. Still, point stands - as for now it's less convenient option.
I have no clue why that triggered people so much. Never stated that I have any problem with that, nor that I need any help solving it. I leave my apartment like, once per month and cause living in EU - there no need to "travel" further than opposite street to buy anything I may need.
On top of that, point was that it's issue for other people in general. Explain how to setup tailscale to your grandma, I dare you.
It was already worse than 2 subscriptions before... now they ensured that people who are dumb enough to give them money could not say "well, I guess I can skip Monday games"
So they have segmented the broadcast further; showing zero care or respect for their customer base in Canada
In time this will backfire badly. We used to be a fam who watched Hockey when our kids were little, because of that my now grown son had asked to "get back into it" (we had already given up) so we pirated the feeds because it's cheaper and better service than any official broadcast partner. He could not believe we needed to check the NHL site to find out which service was carrying "today's game"
It is easy to see how so many families would just decide to go without and the fan-hood that is passed from parents to kids as they watched sports as a family would be over. Even now, most of my sons' friends could not care less about Hockey which was definitely not the case in my generation. Good job Bettman!
Reading this thread makes me so happy I long ago lost interest in watching sports. It sounds like a complete headache to be a fan of any sport these days.
Sport + Americans = enshittification. They ruined F1, and more football hydration breaks are coming. They took over MotoGP and immediately killed the most popular race, then race those stupid Harley baggers.
Fried chicken, Powerade, pizza, Pepto bismol, laxatives. Repeat. They sell you food you have to drug yourself to eat. Now "fans" only watch because they gambled on the game.
NFL isn't bad, at least if you just want to follow your home team. The games are still broadcast free over the air, just got to buy a $20 antenna and you're set for life.
But isnāt that because of different leagues and cup tournaments. In the US they split the games from a single league across different subscriptions. At least in my country in Europe the main football league is just one subscription.
In Germany, to have all Bundesliga games available you'd need DAZN and Sky. I also looked up Premier League in UK and apparently you'd need Sky and TNT there. Those are the respective top national leagues. Champions League is also split up between Amazon Prime and Paramount+ and the finale might be available on Netflix exclusively.
oh wow that sucks. Here in the Netherlands I can get both Bundesliga and Premier League from Viaplay under one subscription. Champions League, La Liga and Seria A from Ziggo and Eredivisie from ESPN. Still not great but no splitting leagues across different providers. yet.
I mean eSports has already taken a significant piece of the adrenaline pie, and there is no such thing as "blackout" for any of the major competitions.
They've continually devalued Sunday ticket as a product. I'm surprised Google isn't more pissed about it, as they paid a fuck load for the rights to be the exclusive seller.
Same deal with F1, couldnt renew my F1 sub without getting apple TV. Ive never owned an apple product in my life, not gonna sub to their garbage. Bye F1tv.
What really pisses me off is having lived in Las Vegas, where they shut the whole Strip and a bunch of surrounding areas down for this race. Not sure if they do it every time but they also shut down the famous Bellagio fountains and covered the view with ugly scaffolding!
For the race itself, not only can you only watch it via a subscription stream, they also block off any local infrastructure with a view, such as the pedestrian bridges, so that the only eyes able to actually see the thing happen in our own city on our own streets paid ~$2000 for the privilege.
The classism on display is insane. The city is all about entertaining the obscenely wealthy globalist class, and the people that make it all run are serfs.
While it pains me to mention reddit, a certain sub has allowed me to watch basically any region or subscription locked broadcast for F1 and IMSA event I've wanted for a while. Just need to make sure the ad blocker is up. There is zero chance I'm subbing to Peacock to watch a handful of sportscar races throughout the year
I agree, I dislike the vendor lock-in. But to be fair, you don't have to own an Apple product to watch Apple TV Plus, and honestly, some of their content is quite good. Roku and even a PS5 can stream content from that network. That being said, the vendor lock-in is reason enough to boycott them.
I think weāve had as many as 4 subscriptions to legally watch all the broadcasted* matches of a top flight football team some years
One of my pirate feeds for the World Cup had an annoying "Scan this QR Code to pay for your TV license" graphic in the corner. How do you people live like that?
Just looked it up for Germany: Sky and DAZN for Bundesliga, Amazon Prime and Paramount+ (what?) for Champions League and apparently the CL final game is rumored to be aired on Netflix exclusively.
You need two different subscriptions to stream Premier League matches in America. I thought that was bad enough. But the UK situation sounds significantly worse.
I just wanna give a shout-out to the Blab, who has been illegally broadcasting Mets and Rangers games (and other stuff, including jeopardy and Seinfeld) for more than a decade now. I gave you like .01btc in 2017 or 2018, and that's definitely a lot more now than it was then, but you deserve it.
I gave in and paid for Sportsnet again this summer after trying for months to find a way to stream baseball games that worked for me. couldn't find anything.
I hate the Sportsnet experience. it's fucking terrible as a user. constant disconnections to what I am actively watching, or coming back to after pausing for ten minutes
this year I paid for the summer. next year I'll just not watch baseball, I guess. which sucks, but if they won't let me watch it without constant issues...
I prefer watching IRL anyway since I don't have a high refresh rate TV and I haven't even seen any broadcasts higher than the typical 24fps. I can almost never see the puck on TV. It moves too fast.
Also my team fucking sucks anyway. One of, like, only 2 teams that have never won the Stanley Cup.
Similar for rugby in Europe. I subscribed last year and only discovered on the first day of the league that I was only getting 50/60% of my team's games in the domestic league, not to mention the other league.
My dad has been complaining about this kind of thing for baseball. The subscription to watch games online specifically blacks out home games because..l fuck you I guess? Heās paying for the service but he still needs to either use a VPN or pirate just to watch some of the games.
I think the NFL was 7 that you needed if you wanted to watch every game. It's crazy. And they play some games internationally now so some games air at really weird times.

Khm-khm, arm boards, khm-khm
No like, for real, why 16gb arm board like O6 now costs almost 1k euro? 32gb version right now 1400 euro on aliexpress. FOR WHAT? Finest chinesium?
And "affordable" Raspberry Pi with as much ram as my toaster (and similar CPU at that) now costs more money, than regular small mini PC on x86.
I need to dig into that a bit more, but I'm not sure if it will work with NAT on ISP side (with is a common thing at least in region I'm from).
Axolotl_cpp@feddit.it · 3 pts · 21d
Even x86 hardware, because everyone is now selling shit without RAM and SSD/HDDs but with the same prices
It should work in theory
boonhet@sopuli.xyz · 1 pts · 20d
Not sure how DDNS would work with CGNAT since multiple users would be sharing one public IP address.

Including Utah and Seattle, it's actually 10
But yeah, as a fan of a cup less team, I feel you there

Similar for rugby in Europe. I subscribed last year and only discovered on the first day of the league that I was only getting 50/60% of my team's games in the domestic league, not to mention the other league.

My dad has been complaining about this kind of thing for baseball. The subscription to watch games online specifically blacks out home games because..l fuck you I guess? Heās paying for the service but he still needs to either use a VPN or pirate just to watch some of the games.

Fuuuuuuck. Good thing I never subscribed to any sport streams though

I think the NFL was 7 that you needed if you wanted to watch every game. It's crazy. And they play some games internationally now so some games air at really weird times.

Feels like this is the case for most sports these days :(

Point your satelite dish on 7E(if you are in Europe and in the footprint) and thank me later!
Ps: You gonna need the keys, but a satellite forum will help you.
