It's so weird how the "Communism is when the government gives people stuff" crowd just so happens to be concentrated in places where, were the surrounding states and federal government to stop subsidizing public services or industries or funding, they'd be almost completely destitute over night.
Like you said, it just wouldn't be worth it to private interests to reach an already-poorer population in the middle of nowhere with services like hospitals, shipping, or telecom.
I really wish they could understand this. Not in a "See what we do for you?" kind of way, but more like "See? Things are actually better when we're working together with government to take care of each other." Kind of way...
If they succeed and all those benefits get pulled in favor of private parasites, they'll be even poorer, even angrier, and still blame the Democrats.
It kinda feels like our postal service in the U.S.
They defund it, then complain about it, then start ranting that it "Doesn't even make a profit" even though the whole point is that it's supposed to be an affordable and accessible mail service.
They're even doing the same thing with schools. The entire conservo-righty playbook anymore is to get rid of our public services so they and their rich buddies have more to gain at our expense.
Not to mention: This software must be as boring for most coders to work on as it is essential for all of us to have. Let's be honest it's not the sexiest kind of project.
I'm glad we have a volunteer community that can get excited about maintaining and improving office software for people around the globe. There's a rare intersection of discipline, passion, and skill at play there. :)
This is super cool! Although the game is quite explicitly designed as a bespoke single player experience, given the number of enemies, tight corridors and hiding spots.
So I wonder if they can mod any sort of level adjustments or enemy changes that would give the second player something cooperative to actually do. (Those co-op Splinter Cell game modes that came WAY later come to mind.)
Otherwise, it seems like the same as the singleplayer game but one player's job is just following the other player around. (Or worst case, getting in the way and getting shot or blown up lol.) So like...an escort mission?
Maybe one player can be Merle. :D
As a proof of concept project though, undeniably awesome. :D pre-alpha means this could really go anywhere.
Well, I guess we can't really be too upset about SpaceX "messing up the moon", because one of biggest things it does for us is pull and take hits from various space trash. :)
Precisely!

That sounds really interesting! I couldn't find anything else on this. Is this like pre-systemd?
My favorite quip of late:
"Texas: The one-star State"
I can't tell if this was a joke, because I couldn't find a second one! I'd be doomed lol.
Get some help.

"Hours before deactivation" paywalls? What is this, 2003 Download-dot-com? :(

So, it's public, it's ours. They're probably ridiculously huge but... there's gotta be some data hoarders out there with some of them, right?
Archive.org maybe? Research university servers?
I hope this is as sloppily redacted as the Epstein files so they're not gone for good...
WOO! I'll look into it! Pointless? Probably. Nostalgic? Yes!
Edit: Ah so it doesn't leave a trail of repeating cursors... But this is COOL! Thanks for sharing it!
Haha cool thanks for the follow up!
I actually might have deleted my comment because I was like "Naaah they've probably thought of this already and I'm not contributing." 😅
Before or after it peaked? Really makes a difference lol.
And maybe I'm way behind but.... Wasn't this supposed to be some pay-for-a-ship-with-hundreds-of-dollars-US web3 kinda thing anyway?
Yeah I'll chuckle from waaaaaay over here, thanks. Lol
EDIT: erroneously deleted, but I suggested Qubes and Tails as possibilities. :)
Case in point: The online game "Kingdom of Loathing." I played that in like 2006 and the little martini stick dude still stands out.
LOL I honestly can't tell if that's good or bad, in this context. XD
