While of course the bikes or motos or whatever should be better regulated, "gigantic personal vehicle kills cyclist" does not seem like it's rare or specific to electric bikes.

What sort of carbrain bullshit is this "illegal e-moto" framing?

around 8:50 a.m. when he was struck by, or crashed into, an SUV on Centre Street just north of Chambers Street.

It's not very likely to end up dead in a pool of blood when you crash with your bike, even if heavy at these speeds. This usually needs the kinetic energy of a motor vehicle.

The car involved in the crash was a bit further up the road. The driver, 40, was interviewed by police and not immediately charged. The record on the car includes three speed-camera tickets since 2024.

Yeah. Not a fan of these bikes for multiple reasons but more likely than not the murder/manslaughter weapon was an SUV.

All this talk, but the most dangerous vehicle in the story was still the Chevy Tahoe, which has no business in a city.
