Crossposting as it was suggested to me. My game uses OSM data, with as much as possible cut out then compressed. For example the map of Austria I offer is a one time 57 MB download. Bigger countries are subdivided.
Data is under 10 GB for world wide coverage, so I can host it for free on Cloudflare :)
It took quite a while, but it's finally out. Fully free, no ads, no in-app purchases (besides a "Support the developer" option), no data collection and fully offline playable. All you need is your phone and GPS :)
I originally made the game to go on walks, unfortunately I sat even more in front of my PC to develop it. It is what it is. Hopefully it motivates some of you to get your steps in đź’š
General idea of the game: Collect ingredients, brew them into potions and sell them to merchants. With the gold and reputation you get you can buy things and decorate your neighborhood. Other players see the same map and resources (so you can indirectly play together), but the game world fully belongs to you (singleplayer only).
General roadmap right now:
- Adding achievements
- Adding buildings you can improve over time (tavern to attract merchants and an ingredient tree you need to grow)
- More minigames and improving the existing ones
- And of course bugfixes, please let me know if you run into issues :)
For any questions and suggestions I'm always available!

cute little game! a few notes (I have a pixel 9):
Very fun! I gave it a try while walking my dog, I'll leave a positive review on play and a donation. I love supporting indie devs.

Good call on the ladle gravity!
Download 1.2.11 (you might have to check the Play Store directly if it doesn't automatically update) and try it out. There's now also a question mark button on the main screen for reopening the tutorial :)
Keep the feedback coming đź’š

great stuff! I'll leave another comment once I have some more time with it!

Thank you!
The three buttons at the top are filters, magnify glass hides the arrow markers (25m, 50m, 75m, ..), the tree hides resources (Ingredients, events, ..) and the flag hides NPCs (It's the faction flag). I'll add it to the tutorial, it wasn't there, so it's my fault :) The idea of those filters were just: You have an NPC at home you don't want to sell to / don't have the ingredients for, but you want to look at your pretty decoration. Or you always walk the same route so you disable the edge markers (magnify glass), as they are just noise then.
Yes, the water minigame already got several redesigns. The previous version was less fiddly, but your finger was on the tip of the ladle and not the handle, so you covered the water filling and spilling. I'll try your idea about adding a little bit of gravity to it.
If the one donation I got was from you, thank you! You did give me a jumpscare on waking up as Google sends an "Urgent issue" red notification, but in reality it's just adding tax information for Ireland, the US and Taiwan (:

That looks really cute! I’m on iOs or I would try it:(

I'll try to get it to iOS :)
But it might take a while, I also want to polish the game even further until then.

Excellent! I enjoyed pogo back in the day and have been playing with Walkscape recently. This seems right up my alley:)

Apple took two weeks just for the first round of reviews, but it's finally out.

Not the newest content update yet, but hopefully in a day or two that will also pass the review :)
Let me know how you like it, a rating and review would be very appreciated! đź’š

Oh wow I wasn’t expecting you to move on this quick! Downloading it now.
reallykindasorta@slrpnk.net · 2 pts · 25d
I keep getting a “waiting for gps” error:( Probably I have something vital switched off inside of the location services settings but I’ve given the app permission… I will need to do some troubleshooting
Vlyn@lemmy.zip · 1 pts · 25d
Oh, for the first start you need a good GPS signal (due to the tutorial). Try moving to a window at least ^^'
I also improved GPS with an update, but it's still in Apple Review.

Oh that may explain it, my workplace doesn’t get excellent signal. I’ll try again when I’m back in the neighborhood:)

(ios) I took this on a long walk the other day and am really enjoying it! Gathering ingredients to make potions to grow my homestead is surprisingly rewarding.
The mini games where you break the strands and the grinder encounter are still confusing to me.
The brewing mechanism is cute and I love the pestle. Mining game is pretty satisfying. Love the mushroom picking.
I shared with some friends and family, thanks for putting something nice into the world that isn’t secretly mining us for information:)

Hey, lovely that you enjoy it đź’š
"Break the strands", do you mean the plants minigame where you cut the dotted branches? Or the essence minigame with the glowing wisps floating around?
The grinder has two parts: First you break an ingredient ball (the ingredient you put in), it splits up into all its effects. So a 3x Healing, 2x Cure, 1x Confusion ingredient would split into 6 balls. You can either crush the effect balls (with some speed, but careful angle) against the mortar edge to destroy them. Or you push them down and out to collect them for your end result.
The best way to use it is to make 9x powders, so you put in some ingredients with 3x of what you want, like 3x Healing, destroy all other effects they might have and you get a 9x Healing powder. Some players go crazy with that, if you put three of those into a brew you already get 27x Healing on a single potion. Plus the various skills and buffs you can add it can go as high as 39x Healing (roughly, I probably forgot something again) :)
And then you buy the Merchant buffs (blue faction) and could sell a potion for up to 800 gold at once. But that's really min-maxing and not necessary at all.
Let me know what other minigame you have an issue with, maybe I need to improve the tutorial!

The glowing wisp one is the other one I’m still not sure about, next time I run into the grinder I’ll try to follow your instructions carefully:) I think I didn’t understand that you’re supposed to push them “down and out,” my instinct was to treat it like the pestle. I also didn’t think about it being useful to destroy an effect sometimes! I probably won’t start maxing anytime soon, I enjoy puttering around.
Vlyn@lemmy.zip · 1 pts · 21d
The wisp one works like this: You start swiping anywhere you want and have to swipe through the current active wisp, while avoiding all other wisps.
If you keep your finger down you can do it all in one long swipe, going from wisp to wisp while avoiding the others.
You are allowed to raise your finger (if you can't avoid a wisp), but then your swipe has to touch the previous wisp again before you can collect the current target. As a hint the previous wisp has a ripple effect whenever you start swiping to guide you there.
I hope this helps! đź’š

I think I had the concept roughly correct from what you described, so it’s probably a skill issue! I will keep at it. I kind of like some of the games being a bit difficult to execute perfectly, so don’t handhold us TOO much:)

For those not wanting to sign up for a Google account, any other way of getting the game?
Vlyn@lemmy.zip · 2 pts · 51d
Either with Aurora or a direct download from any APK mirror.
For example https://apkcombo.com/wandering-alchemist/com.vlyn.wanderingalchemist/
The mirror doesn't yet have the newest version (1.2.12), no clue how fast they are with updates.
