Is this factually true in historical writings, or am I being bamboozled? I know of the Greek's propensity for gay sex, but hadn't heard of the outer course approach.
Gay sex isn't about reproducing. I could see outer course being one of those things that seems completely implausible to me but actually happened. I've been surprised by historical sexual documents I have seen in the past, thought this may be one of those times.
I bet those guys could tell tales that would make a modern sailor blush. It's what people do without tv. Some of the stuff was written down if you want to look it up. Those stories like the ones the Brothers Grimm wrote down? Those first versions were pure smut and gore, and only became children's stories after a few rounds of heavy cutting and editing.
Even if gay sex was not a factor, the movie has an entire scene dedicated to explaining that Odysseus' men raped and pillaged at just about every stop on their way back.

Let me complete the joke:
The Greeks invented sex, but it was the Romans who were the first to add women to it.

Thigh gap was their preferred pound, not anal. So generally sitting after wouldn't be a problem.

I suggest you do some historical reproduction research.

Maybe "historical reenactment research" would have been the better phrase there. 😝

"Just let me slip it between your thighs, bro, I won't go in your hole, I promise."
"You promise?"
"Sure."
"OK, just make it quick"
"Dude this is taking ages"
"I know a way I'll finish faster. I'll pull out, I promise"
"You promise?"

Odysseus fucked Circe and Calypso too on the way.
