Just a different species of rock. There are fish with no eyes, and lizards. Why couldn't an eyeless kind of rock evolve if they originated in a place where eyes would not be beneficial?
Yea could be possible. If I remember correctly from the book, rockys planet is completely dark. But maybe there are some smaller light sources on the planet.
