This sounds like a dangerous lawsuit….
They have a problem with local face tagging of people who are not the owner of the device. So if you take a photo with multiple people on it (or in the background) it should not be allowed to detect the faces. Effectively killing face detection for everyone.

If they’re truly concerned about actual privacy invasions Illinois should be going after Ring, Flock and the like.
What’s next? Citizens of Illinois won’t be able to create subfolders on devices that use people’s names?

Are we going to make it illegal in Illinois to look at someone and recognize them without their consent? It’s not like the local on device tagging can even identify someone, it’s up to the user.

That’s an interesting point. I do wonder if it pulls from the contacts and messages app to try to identify people.
It’s also strange that there isn’t just an “off” switch for this Photos feature in settings.

It does not pull anything from contacts or messages. Also not the other way around
