I support the idea of a federated employment platform. However I see no reason for an employment platform to have social features.
SorteKanin@feddit.dk · 14 pts · 21d
I know we love to hate on LinkedIn, but honestly there are plenty of reasons to want social features about employers and jobs. Reviews, salary discussions, union organization and all such stuff that employees could leverage against employers, for instance.
Of course that's not what LinkedIn is largely used for because it's full of employers trying to brand themselves or influencers trying to make an image for themselves. But it could be different, I think.

sounds like linkedin x glassdoor, really. except people on glassdoor are assholes too.
maybe it cancels out.
applebusch@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 2 pts · 21d
theyre one company now, so they get to be assholes together
lime@feddit.nu · 3 pts · 21d
oh that's not an exploitable combination of properties at all
artyom@piefed.social · 1 pts · 21d
These are all things that could be designated to one or the other, as appropriate. There's no reason they need to be in the same place and every reason not to.
SorteKanin@feddit.dk · 1 pts · 21d
Not sure I understand - you think some of those things don't belong on the fediverse? What do you mean "one or the other"?
artyom@piefed.social · 1 pts · 21d
1 = social media
"the other" = Professional business platform
I think these things should be separate.
SorteKanin@feddit.dk · 1 pts · 21d
I feel like that's an unnecessarily narrow view of what the fediverse can be. The fediverse is not only for any single particular social networking use case, like micro-blogging (Mastodon) or forums (Lemmy, Pyfed etc). It can be much more than that, and all of it at the same time. There's no reason why the fediverse should restrict itself to only certain social media use cases.
artyom@piefed.social · 1 pts · 21d
The fediverse is already broken up across way too many usecases, such that I have to have a profile for videos, a profile for podcasts, a profile for my blog, a profile for communities, etc. etc. and they want to add another one.
SorteKanin@feddit.dk · 3 pts · 20d
On that I agree. It'd be nice with a more universal platform.
scrubbles@poptalk.scrubbles.tech · 13 pts · 21d
I have only received jobs for the last 10 years via social features. I hate it, I don't enjoy it, but networking and people skills are the way to a good network. I started blogging and recruiters started pinging me regularly. It has a place
artyom@piefed.social · -1 pts · 21d
Thats great, you can network and have people skills on social media and link from there to your professional bio. There's no reason for them to be in the same place.
scrubbles@poptalk.scrubbles.tech · 3 pts · 21d
Except, I don't want those people in my regular circles on my regular accounts, I keep work and personal separate. I'd prefer to have a separate account, just like this that's linked to my professional life. This fills that need for me
artyom@piefed.social · 1 pts · 21d
So create a separate account. There's no reason it needs to be on a dedicated platform.
Zorque@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 21d
So you want to separate things so they're all in their own little spheres... so that there's less dedicated services?
scrubbles@poptalk.scrubbles.tech · 2 pts · 21d
Where would I put my CV and professional details, my skills and abilities? I don't know man, I see some real value here, what's the harm of it?
artyom@piefed.social · 1 pts · 21d
On a separate, professional site.
The harm is filling a professional website with a bunch of noisy nonsense no one cares about. I don't need to see your federated OnlyFans profile when I'm looking for an employee.
scrubbles@poptalk.scrubbles.tech · 3 pts · 21d
Don't subscribe to users from there then, and even then doesn't sound like this would be federated?
That's quite literally what this app appears to be trying to do.
phar@lemmy.world · 6 pts · 21d
Right? In what way does it help anything? Only makes things worse.
TheFogan@programming.dev · 24 pts · 21d
Honestly though I feel like a federated linked in has the same problem as a federated dating site..., or really even federated facebook style social media etc...
Federation can work for something like lemmy, in that we can be useful in spite of a lack of userbase compared to the corporate version. 200 people scattered around the world to talk about linux, or open source works.
Trying to find someone close enough to you to date, or looking for a specialized employee or a close enough to work on site employee on the other hand, is a hell of a stretch.

Unfortunately this is mostly an AI project :(
rglullis@communick.news · 12 pts · 21d
Look, I really want LinkedIn to disappear. But please, please, please don't focus on building/porting another "platform" to ActivityPub. A client application that can interact with C2S servers would be a thousand more times more interesting, for users and companies alike.
ActivityPub already has an API. Let's just use it.
supersquirrel@sopuli.xyz · 7 pts · 21d
....but how does that help me create a blog post demonstrating I can make a thing in order to get hired? If I just use mostly the thing that already exists and just intelligently hook up a smaller more minimally scoped software to it then it doesn't really help me get a job..?
rglullis@communick.news · 2 pts · 21d
Of course it does. You just need to change your resume to say you are looking for a software architect position. Chances are you are going to end making even more money.
scrubbles@poptalk.scrubbles.tech · 7 pts · 21d
Interesting. I fully expect it to be a bunch of Linux nerds. However, us linux nerds share job postings with others.
SrMono@feddit.org · 7 pts · 21d
Funny as I wanted to recommend bizzFed today. I finally pulled the recommendation due to rather ungoverned AI use.
I cannot asses whether vutuv is really better in that regard, but at a first glimpse Wintermeyer's AI workflow seems to be more sophisticated.
DieserTypMatthias@lemmy.ml · 4 pts · 20d
While not open-source and federated, Profesia and other Alma Career job searching platforms are pretty good and EU-based. Plus there's a ton of good places other than LinkedIn that are better and probably not vibe-coded.
mrdown@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 21d
I is hard to remember this name. Please consider another
tofu@lemmy.nocturnal.garden · 4 pts · 21d
uwutuwu
tofu@lemmy.nocturnal.garden · 3 pts · 21d
So there's 2 of them, bizzfed and this? I wonder if they choose the same entities as AP actors etc and work together in a good way.
greenmonster@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 3 pts · 21d
So cool.... but looking at the rest of the comments I might just be a little naive. Yet it is worth at least checking out.
JupiterRowland@sh.itjust.works · 1 pts · 16d
Any reasons why this was created from scratch instead of as an add-on for Friendica or Hubzilla?
Oh, right, because hardly anyone knows that Friendica exists, next to nobody knows that Hubzilla exists, and definitely nobody outside these two (and their offspring) knows that they're modular to begin with.
Also, I guess that the only other thing in the Fediverse that vutuv is compatible with is Mastodon. Again.
supersquirrel@sopuli.xyz · 1 pts · 16d
I only figured out this was vibe coded with AI after I posted this, but that may be why.
Skullgrid@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 21d
... there are no job postings yet
ZombieCyborgFromOuterSpace@piefed.ca · 1 pts · 20d
I'm tired or annoyed of LinkedIn so I'm going to join the fediverse version of LinkedIn... yeah...
Nothing is in the cloud, but what if someone else creates an instance hosted in a cloud service? And what difference does that even make? It's not like data scrapers can't go and see everything available to the public.
JustDorky@lemmy.world · 0 pts · 21d
Love it, I've signed up, awesome work with import from LinkedIn feature seems really handy for users!
