They keep saying poor conditions as though this is some kind of outlier. But, honestly, the conditions they're describing are basically standard. Not saying that's good, but, broken heads, shitty food, terrible sleep... that's life on carrier.
The only thing it makes it remotely bearable is that it's broken up every month or so with a couple days in port getting absolutely wrecked.
What makes this USS Lincoln situation special is that it's been going for 250 days straight... that's over 8 months... most deployments don't even last long, and they're hitting ports along the way.
Fun fact? If a ship can't make port for 45 days, the captain is supposed to throw a "beer day".. basically a steel picnic... basically a BBQ day on the flight deck for a couple hours (for the day crew)... during "beer day" sailors are entitlted to TWO whole beers (that are non-alcoholic). And I bet you the Lincolnd isn't even doing that....
so yea, 8 months straight, 7 days a week, 12 hour days, no days off would have me putting on a chain vest and jumping deck too.

Cannot wait to hear how, just like the economy, this is Biden's fault.

It's even more hypocritical than that, unfortunately. The conservatives on my local neighborhood app said these soldiers didn't appreciate or understand what they signed up for when I brought this up. They chalked it up to being weak willed. It blew my mind how quickly they turned on the troops they so loudly support as soon as it meant shielding Trump from criticism.

Enlisted recruits are barely more than indentured servants under modern US law. There's really no depravity the state can't subject you to while on deployment. And no way to escape from mandatory re-enlistment under Stop-Loss policy.
Maybe military servicemen would be treated better if they had they same kind of union representation as postal carriers and cops.
Maybe the self-proclaimed labor-friendly Dems need to talk about giving soldiers the right to withhold their labor and negotiate proper terms with their employers.

Comrade Trump doing what he can to fight the US war machine.

He's going to do absolute wonders on that front if they actually kowtow to his idiotic idea of having WWII-era battleships because of how they fucking look, for fuuuuuuuck's sake.

Schumer has invested thousands of tax dollars into specialized stationary meant for writing very serious, very harshly worded letters. If Trump keeps breaking the laws again for the
35426th,35427th,35428th.......... 35429th time he's gonna write a whole cover letter too.FuglyDuck@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 10d

Uh.. Why is it there anyway? The war wasnt approved by congress and the 60 days is up.

Because the Trump Administration is still upset about how the Civil War ended so it punished the Abraham Lincon and treated the sailors like slaves.

What about the conditions in the literal concentration camps? Anyone care about that?
