Imaginary first world problems.. Again.
It takes a lot of delusions/lack of experience to imagine Linux is completely fragmented and uses completely different programs, daemons and configuration
- Linux has used the same base commands (grep, cat, tail, etc) for decades. Longer than powershell (and longer than MacOS)
- What "tutorial"? Bash learning one? What exactly are you "learning" in CLI? Unix scripting was part of my University course, and NOTHING has changed since doing it 20 years ago
- All the major distros are using SystemD now, the freedesktop base,Pulseaudio (or pipewire) and the only distinction is generally package managers. But, even a lot of software is available on flatpak.
- The real difference is configuration tools. The majority are the same. And, if you're doing learning server administration and struggle to differentiate a tutorial between SUSE Server and Ubuntu server, then you SHOULDN'T be administrating servers
- Most Daemons are the same too (everyone uses Samba, etc)
- There are literally GUI tools for mostly everything.
- Any common distribution has EXCELLENT documentation regarding almost anything.
- The claim that 1% of that help is malicious is laughable.
As per always, this post is lacking actual examples, of where people use CLI these days. Probably thats because in practice, there are very few that affect newbies that actually exist.

Yeah, y'all have heard "don't feed the trolls" but that's an adage for a good reason. Like guys, this is a buffet you've set up. Just block the sad loser & their performative attention seeking comm and move on. Their goal isn't to convince anyone linux actually sucks, they just get off on taunting you with your complete inability to affect them - and lets reiterate you can't do anything to them except not take their bait.
Nobody on lemmy has ever been convinced linux is actually bad with what that toon posts. What they're doing is utterly inconsequential. So stop feeding the damn trolls.

They're getting constant negative votes, and posted an angry message the other day which seemed to suggest they weren't happy.
I actually noticed this morning, that 2 of their brand new posts had +4 votes, so its possible, they're using fake accounts at this point to upvote themselves even.
I'm more interested in helping people understand the REAL information. Madthumbs likely won't be around forever (they can only recycle the same claims about ECC or whatever so many times). So, in practice, we only need to debunk a few things. They're already self-referencing themselves constantly, and repeating arguments.

The "Linux is fragmented" arguments is one of those low-effort, low quality arguments that people like them LOVE to use, because it seems theoretically plausible to people with no experience, and there are so many distro's out there, that you could argue that at least 1 distro is affected
The proof its BS in practice, is that even Steam doesn't seem to be having any issues between the various distributions

Having been a user for ages, my Linux experience has been all over the place ranging from near flawless to not even able to boot. It’s got its positives, but it’s no second coming. Like anything, there’s no real sense in defending something dead (in the classic sense). It’s a thing at the end of the day. Spend your energy on things that make you happy.

Seriously, please, guys, stop feeding them. They either know it's BS or are too stupid to ever be influenced. But either way, nobody's mind has ever been changed about linux by their nonsense. If everyone just blocks them, they'll burn themselves out. Or they won't and they'll keep posting into the void forever, but nobody will ever notice.
