I fixed a broom

The bottom of this aging broom fell off. We use it to sweep stuff out of our garden.

I had previously fixed it with a nail, but that broke. I think it was metal fatigue, and a very slender nail.

This time I'm using a relatively thick screw. It doesn't quite go all the way through, so it looks janky but I'm trying to be okay with it....

I would drill a hole through the handle into the other side of the head so the screw can go all the way through and not stick out

nahhhh, fine like this.

It's a functional issue, not an aesthetic issue. The screw sticking that far out has the potential to scratch surfaces

I’m sure the plants and garden materials will be okay.

Some master craftsmanship right there.

That's probably not going to last super long considering how short the grain below the screw is. It'll likely split and then pull out. I would heavily recommend unscrewing it, adding some glue to it, and screwing it back in. The screw will keep it in position while the glue cures and give it some extra strength. Any glue should work, but I'd recommend wood glue or gorilla glue for this specifically.

I absolutely second this! Nothing like mopping up pebbles and leaves from the asphalt out the front šŸ˜Ž

Do you want your asphalt clean or CLEAN ENOUGH TO EAT OFF?!

Also I realize now I was logged into the wrong account when I posted this, so this would actually have been 70% funnier under that account. So, keep that in mind.

Pretty sure those are just friction fit

It's gonna break soon. The screw is weakening the wood.

When it happened me I attached the broken pieces to a block of wood so it now functions as a DIY boot brush.
