Wait... NYC doesn't have those huge underground bins yet?
IME those are pretty common in even smaller cities in Europe. Even the UK has them in plenty of cities. Frees up a lot of space and you don't need to empty them as much.
America really is weird sometimes. Imagine being rich as sin, buying a multi-million dollar property in NYC, then being ok with the neighbourhood around that property smelling like someone died after fucking a dumpster filled with fish, because you're ideologically opposed to even a small tax hike.
NYC has a lot of old infrastructure beneath the roads. Like a LOT. It’s improbable in most places because of cost. I’d be surprised if there was any soil left in mahattan at all
Those blow out/up, and you'll have a bad time. Find the intake to make sure you're not enshittifying yourself while attending to a civic duty dookie. 🫡
Fair's fair, this specific pilot started under Eric Adams. NYC had always been ass backwards when it comes to garbage collection and curb management starting back to when the city planners were too busy with other projects and forget to put in alleys for dumpsters and utility access.
Surprising Adams win given the overall strangeness of his tenure.
Not a win "for" Adams, as he may've started it (is it "starting" if nothing notable/measurable was accomplished after greenlighting it?), but Mamdani seems to've whipped whatever/whomever into line —and in record time, too! 🤌🏼

90% of tax money in the past evaporated for
This left us in a huge deficit with 0 public infrastructure improvements for decades.
People werent ok with it, but the billionaires running things lived upstate or in gated communities.

That multi-million dollar property comes with a climate controlled underground garage so they don't have to smell the poors ever. Checkmate

I wondered how he got the bins so fast.

Sounds more and more like a decent place to live —except for the NE winters, insane housing issues, etc. 😅😶
explodicle@sh.itjust.works · 2 pts · 27d
The winters in NYC are less brutal than the rest of NE. And if you don't have a car, then you don't have to shovel it out.

Good to know, and thanks! I was raised in that general region, so I'm experienced in weathering those winters. 🤘🏼
