They exist, somehow. Just recently I encountered some dingus smugposting about how the CIA is Fine Actually, their behavior through the 1950s had no relation to what they do today, and anyone thinking otherwise is a conspiracy theorist.
I think I saw those same comments. I almost went to check my water lines for LSD for a minute after reading. Smug posting doesn't even begin to cover it, it was so fucking surreal. Even direct links to verified and declassified facts both were like shit on a pig on that one. I didn't think there was something to make me prefer the average person's total blissful ignorance on the topic but that person's creepy smug whitewashed reality shit was some next level wtf.
Because there are no world police. There is no real international law, and there never has been. The CIA is the US's group of murderous psychos, tasked with warding off the groups of murderous psychos employed by every other nation to advance their national interests.
In every country, there are some people who decide, "all that matters is my country and its interests. Every other nation and its people are completely disposable." Every nation with a national intelligence agency finds these people among the populace, gathers them together, and puts them to work warding off their counterparts from other nations. That's the CIA in a nutshell.
People are people. Humans are humans. Don't fall for the tankie mistake of thinking people in the West are uniquely ontologically evil. The reason we have the CIA is because even if we dismantled it tomorrow, our rival nations would still be employing their own groups of intelligent, creative psychopaths to advance their national interests by any means necessary.
Because one day if you're the best little "pick me", you can get treated kindly by the worst people in the world, and then get shitcanned as soon as your presence becomes politically inconvenient!
