"Some people" can say and believe whatever they want about the purpose of government, but its actual function in the world across time—especially in modern times—has clearly been at odds with the proposition of "caring for others".
The world's biggest corporations are stealing our data and privacy for profit while governments around the world legitimize it. We have an ongoing genocide in the middle east, opposition to which is treated as radical and illegitimate. Russia is grinding its own people into meat just to grab another piece of territory in Ukraine. Next year, there will be work requirements in the US for those on Medicaid, while universal healthcare is called unthinkable. Material conditions are so bad that we're seeing a global rise in fascism: an ideology literally built on an "us vs them" mentality.
The argument isn't perfect, but "one of the dumbest"? It's a response to the very real state of things.
