I think it really depends on which instance you choose since it's not my experience with Masto at all, either. I've been on .art since 2017, I think. It's a super strict instance that heavily blocks users and instances for racism, transmisia etc (including silincing .social when they don't get their shit together) and it's been a very positive experience overall, I've met so many cool people.
I just what's federated here. I couldn't get any friends to switch to mastodon so I never really got into it. I'm not interested in following influencers and celebrities (outside of Ben Collins on bluesky)
Haha, I'm used to none of my friends using "social" media (except for FB which I never used and they all joined Insta after I left) so none of my fedifriends are AFK friends.
Or even just people you follow. I made my own mastodon instance for my photography and follow photography related tags and such so that's all it is from my point of view. I chose mastodon as that seemed to be the best way to federate to Lemmy and pixelfed from one account
Fun coincidence in terms of "three assholes": the phonic punctuation mark ஃ in Tamil, which looks very similar to an asterism ⁂, is used to represent a voiceless glottal fricative (like the /h/ in "ham").
The two fun rectal-related bits:
This type of character in Sanskrit phonology, a visarga, means "discharge".
Its cousin, representing a nasal /n/ sound, is called an anusvara.
Disclaimer: I think this is all true, but I don't really know what I'm talking about, I was just looking into the Unicode a little.

Not my experience with the fedi, quite the opposite, tbh.

I think this was specifically a mastodon dig - which I totally get. Feels like most of what I see from there is quite obnoxious.
I hate that reddit-style sites federate with twitter-style sites, too. I #don't #want #to #see #a #million #fuckin #hashtags #in #the #title

Pre-Trump Twitter is what most of my friends used. A few stayed on there but most of us went to bluesky.

I'll have you know my asshole is perfectly central!

The dinkus is my favourite punctuation mark! :D Although, the asterism isn't my favourite way to write a dinkus 🙃
