No matter what I do. No matter how long it takes to find a match. Round starts with a raider flare almost immediately, rats everywhere, even players who first help end up shooting you in the back. It started today.
I haven't shot at anyone previously, for several months. I just want to do my quests/trials, for fuck's sake. Literally impossible.
I'm supposed to do damage with pop triggers. To even have a chance to achieve a decent total damage, first you have to collect ~10 stacks. That means several rounds of preparation. Then you finally get your stuff, start a game and get shot in the back from nowhere. Now you can start over and try again (or watch as you're dropping out of your rank).
This was my 3rd attempt. All three ended like this. I did literally 0 damage to other players to get this. Now I can just stop playing, get 0 points for the expedition and lose all my trials progress, OR attempt at them and lose all my items for the constant ratting.
Is it just me, or are you experiencing something similar?

I haven't played in a while but the reason I stopped was there was so many rats and it didn't matter if I never attacked anyone either, I had the same feeling as you did so I decided to stop playing, and the devs doesn't seem to care about the feedback from PvE players, which is fair I suppose since it's their game, just sucks for the players who think the ARCs are enough "trouble".

I would have stopped playing earlier if that was the case with me... the thing is, it's been pleasantly quiet up until today. Yes, there have been a few PvP encounters, but VERY rarely. For months. And today I had to stop playing after the third 100% PVP round I got.

I had a similar experience last season. Many PvP players shooting in the back after a whole season of only about 5 PvP encounters. Stella Montis was the worst, but I also felt that if I went out with a lot of inventory value, that increased the likelihood of being attacked. I ended up being more vigilant again, trying not to bring expensive weapons, using the safe slots, and always having my gun out when I'm in an area where I could face others. This season feels more peaceful for me personally, but I'd advise utilizing the safe slots of your augment. You can buy blue ones from Shani because that currency always accumulates anyway. That'd be 6 pop triggers per game even if you get killed.
Edit: You could also skip that trial altogether. I'm #1 of Daredevil 3 without it. You can get 15K to 25K from the swamp trial alone.

Thanks, my safe slots are obviously full all the time - too bad I don't have 10 of them when someone rats me while I'm doing the trial.
I'm in hotshot with the other 4 being 3 stars already (I'm aware that scores still matter regardless of stars), and the indicator is still saying I'm in the bottom half, potentially dropping out.
Don't even get me started on Stella Montis, though... At this point I literally only go there when there's a quest there, and I either go buck naked (with the occasional quest item being shoved up my butt, because a naked build gives me a safe slot while a non-free green augment doesn't), or I only take a hairpin and laugh at the rat before they start looting me. Otherwise I don't set my foot in Stella Montis.

I don't experience this so sorry I can't really relate or help
Few questions to maybe pin point why this is happening to you:
These could influence your matchmaking

Turning off cross play on pc immediately reduced the amount of pvp I ran into. You run into more people who also have their cross play off, usually for the same reason. I'd recommend giving that a try.

Thanks, I will try that tomorrow!

Wow. I'm still not sure whether it was turning off cross play exorcising the servers, or it was a weird Saturday evening pentagram-full moon event (most likely the former), but BOY it went back to peaceful so nicely! Thanks for the tip, I think I'm slowly regaining my sanity (and my 4 lost Hullcrackers).
