This makes sense. A whole currency system of cheese would make more sense than the modern economics of voodoo, magic, and make believe.

Look if we can build climate control systems for giant rooms filled with 100kW slop generating heaters then pretty sure we can cool some cheese down ..

The thing about building a system that isn't usually required is that you gonna have to spend the time finding people to do it, then wait for them to import the required hardware because there's usually no ready stock available, and then have to spend time to install. This is why china able to adapt so fast when the heatwave come while europe suffer, it's because china is one of the country that make and sell AC unit.

They totally can build a climate control system and cool down their cheese, but it takes time.

I think if governments really cared about it (maybe they care about their banks .. I dunno) they'd make it happen asap, also it's not like Italy doesn't have manufacturing capability

Portable Ac units with exhaust ducts out of the cave or whatever special storage space in the meantime would go a long way here.

Long enough that temporary might turn permanent.

Ahhh so this explains the Parmesan cartel. If you don't know, the only "true" Parmesan comes from Italy and there's a cartel of pretty ruthless (legally, not like drug cartels or anything lol) people that try their best to keep it that way.

There was a bunch of drama once about a guy in the US that was a cheese making hobiest that tried to make his own parmesan using some methods he thought of. The Parmesan cartel in Italy sent him a cease and decist letter.

this is true across a wide variety of products deemed "cultural exports" by the eu and is a portion of their soft power throughout the globe

The names Parmigiano Reggiano and Parmesan are protected designations of origin (PDO) for cheeses produced in these provinces under Italian and European law.[1] Outside the EU, the name Parmesan is legally used for imitations, with only the full Italian name unambiguously referring to PDO Parmigiano Reggiano.[2] A 2021 press release by the Italian farmer-rancher association Coldiretti reported that, in the United States, 90% of "Italian sounding" cheese sold as parmesan, mozzarella, grana, and gorgonzola was produced domestically.
