my guess is the footage leaks will cost rockstar $0.00 in sales, and might actually make more people buy it than if there were no footage
it's rockstar's own shitty behavior that will cost them sales

They're claiming they've got the entire source code include latest build, and will happily release the source via a deadman's switch if their demands are not met.
This is good popcorn

There is zero chance it will be released (even if it's true)

Other way around for me: if it's true, ransom or not it will be released. I just don't think it's true

it's karma kicking them in the balls for that stupid follow the train mission in SA

Yeah - and even if it is leaked, there might be people playing an unfinished build, but they will be enthusiasts buying the full version at launch.

maps and videos, one of playing basketball and another with highway driving.
And its.... really underwhelming? Other than the graphics being last-gen terrible, it looks like I'm looking at a GTA 5 mod.

Eveything else in the world has gone to shit, why not GTA?

GTA was always shit.
P.S. Ok, ok... 1st and 4th weren't actually shit, but were nothing special too.

3 was revolutionary, Vice City was solid... I kind of lost interest after that, but the GTA games were all well received and their single-player campaigns were well done, though Rockstar absolutely did soak their online players.
It might not be your cup of tea, but they were trying to provide value to the players. The question is if GTA6 will be an highly enshittified cash grab like everything else has become.

Really? I very much enjoyed 5 and San Andreas (except that stupid train mission).

Were last gen’s graphics terrible? Everything still looks the same now, as you even point out.

Smooth and dusty visuals instead of detailed and sharp ones you might get in a more modern game like Cyberpunk for example

There are
1011 leaked videos so far, the daylight plane is the best IMO, but yeah, it's a bit underwhelming but it was inevitable given all the hype created over the years. In the end it's just another GTA.garretble@lemmy.world · 8 pts · 18d
Do we know yet if you still have to mash X to run? In the year of our lord 2026?
tetris11@feddit.uk · 6 pts · 18d
But the immersion!
eager_eagle@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 18d
I'm sure there will be an accessibility option if that's the case, because my RSI won't let me play it for over an hour otherwise
brucethemoose@lemmy.world · 5 pts · 18d
It definitely wasn’t an intentional leak to generate buzz. Nope...
tetris11@feddit.uk · 1 pts · 18d
I think this a little, but not completely as these leaks show very mild footage. Nothing to wow the audience other than "huh isn't this just V gameplay with extra peds?"
TechAnon@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 18d
It will hurt them a bit. Videos show a PC copy running just fine. Many gamers won't buy on console first to play early and then again on PC. This is a good thing.
tetris11@feddit.uk · 3 pts · 18d
In the past, cross porting a game took time and effort. With today's toolchains? Cross compiling is built-in to the SDK. The delay of a PC release is a clear cash grab
TechAnon@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 18d
I somewhat agree, but GTA V took over a year and a half to come to PC. I think they were still milking it.
As you said, not an issue today. Architectures are close enough today with plenty of tools to create multiple builds fairly quickly.

I’d be interested to see if Netflix tries to get some money back. Paying 100 million dollars for exclusivity and having to compete with leaks would be frustrating.
