Interestingly enough this was always marketed as Schnapps and was never a medicinal tonic, but since its inception has been branded to look like the aesthetic of a medicinal tonic. Dr. A.P. McGillicuddy was a fictional character to give the brand that druggist medicinal tonic feel.
