Google engineers are experimentally adding Flatpak packaging support to Chrome/Chromium on Linux to test restricted sandboxing and XDG portals, without yet committing to official support.

I think maybe CameronDev assumed this meant running flatpak packages inside Chrome which was actually my first interpretation as well

I think Flathub has actually received financial support from one of the previous Google CEO’s non profits in the past.

This is a request for $100k in funding from Flathub. On this page it states

Anyway, I think it’s fine, and have previously considered the governance of the Gnome Foundation as more weird.

I'm more excited about their possible contributions to the xdg portals.

Flatpaks need a more mature permission system that puts the user in control so that DE & standalone app store devs can make it powerful enough for the experienced user and easy enough for casual users.
