Another abject failure of the new regs. The fact they they only evaluate the ICE without even considering the rest of rest of the engine package (the electrical component) is bound to give results that do not match the real world. It's like trying to figure out which horse is the fastest by tying their front legs together so they can only use their back legs. That's cool and all but it tells you fuck all about which horse is actually the fastest.
And then there's the banking of upgrades. It sounds okay if the evaluation process matched the real world performance but even then it's prone to be abused. And we're already seeing it. Merc has the fastest package so they don't need to upgrade the engine, which means for Merc and RBR literally nothing has changed from the last time the engines got evaluated. The outcome stays the same and Merc just gets another free upgrade point. How it should work is that the upgrade gets used between evaluations. If the team decides to not use their upgrade they stay on their allocated upgrade points instead of getting an extra ones. The current point system nearly guarantees Merc engine will stay the best even in 2027 and very likely also in 2028.
