Fall over go boom now

tombruzzo@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 1d (2 replies)

Exciting times. Hope it's a good one

Catfish@aussie.zone · 1 pts · 1d (1 reply)

'22 ASX. Wouldn't know it wasn't brand new except for the odometer.

tombruzzo@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 1d

That's what you want. A few people in the family have had ASXs before, very practical cars

imoldgreeeg@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 1d

Yay! Good car luck and good apartment luck. I bought a pair of everyday shoes and that is enough adulting for me. They are colourful and comfy

Seagoon_@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 1d

Yay ๐Ÿ‘

CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone · 1 pts · 1d

No but i gave the predator I got from Vietnam a while ago a few fascinators to combat the great grandparent's ol' bronze cat:

ts a pacificist just misunderstood.

StudChud@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 1d

Goddamn I knew I should have bailed on my cousin

Gibsonhasafluffybutt@aussie.zone · 7 pts · 1d

Why yes, 2 hours 20 mins is absolutely a reasonable time to get to Flinders. Thank you replacement bus.

Alamutjones@aussie.zone · 7 pts · 1d

2 of the apartments I saw today are lovely.

One is hilarious to think of living in as a footyhead, because it has a direct sightline to the G

Alamutjones@aussie.zone · 6 pts · 1d

I have seen one apartment I really like, and one I really don't

Gibsonhasafluffybutt@aussie.zone · 5 pts · 1d (4 replies)

There's an article on the abc about how black market cigs and vapes are a huge market now.

Gee. I fucking wonder why.

2 years ago, in their infinite wisdom, the government decided to shut down all the legal vape stores. The ones where you had to show ID to be served. Where they didn't sell nicotine.

And now, not only has the government's tobacco tax returned a quarter of what it did 2 years ago, but they're bleeding money combating organised crime around black market tobacco and vapes.

These fucking people.

TheWitchofThornbury2@aussie.zone · 6 pts · 1d (3 replies)

There was a recent wastewater survey in SA for nicotine and/or other drugs that was reported on abc news, maybe the same article. The amount of nicotine in the wastewater has not decreased - so usage hasn't decreased. The govt shot itself in the foot by making legal nicotine hard to access and taxing it heavily. The people have decided to move their support to the illegal market. Prohibition never works.

Taleya@aussie.zone · 6 pts · 1d (2 replies)

Prohibition, fear and shame. I woulda gotten off the fuckers years earlier if i had cheaper or even free support that wasn't a fucking fruit matcher app

"Talk to your doctor" ay that cunt costs more than a pack of darts

StudChud@aussie.zone · 5 pts · 1d (1 reply)

Word. I went to the Dr to quit, and she prescribed these pills that cost more than two packs of 20 from woolies, or like 4x as much as the malboros I get from my tobacconist lol.

And the gum the shit just makes my mouth feel strange and weird, it doesn't make me want to quit cigs, it makes me want to go back to them

Gibsonhasafluffybutt@aussie.zone · 6 pts · 1d

That spray stuff I use costs almost double that cigs would cost for the week.

CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone · 5 pts · 1d (1 reply)

I took to the sunshine today. I am no longer a grumpy bum. ๐Ÿ™‚

Seagoon_@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 1d

It really is lovely out there. ๐ŸŒž

imoldgreeeg@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 1d (6 replies)

Hmm...meatloaf or chilli con carne...what is the better use of this mince???

Catfish@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 1d

Thai cakes, but I've got a heap of limp coriander making this choice

Seagoon_@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 1d

meatloaf as you can left overs in sandwiches for lunches

useless_modern_god@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 1d

The chilli has more options for leftovers. I love it alongside eggs for breakfast.

Alamutjones@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 1d (1 reply)

Mexi-meatloaf

imoldgreeeg@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 1d

Ooh...

beeng@discuss.tchncs.de · 2 pts · 1d

Chili, the beans are really good for you.

Taleya@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 1d (11 replies)

Fuuuck me dead it has begun. Luddites actually believing to the point of argument that datacentres have and will only ever exist solely to serve llm slopshitters

slowly crushes own face in palms

Gibsonhasafluffybutt@aussie.zone · 9 pts · 1d (8 replies)

I'm going to have to push back here. It's very easy to draw that conclusion. The largest push in history for data centres has been brought on by the LLM craze. What is ultimately a clever math function that works similar to an autocomplete.

Don't get me wrong, I use a local LLM for data analysis. The tech has very real uses.

The impact of data centres on both the environment, and people's well being can't be ignored.

I wouldn't refer to people with those concerns as luddites. I'd call them reasonable.

SituationCake@aussie.zone · 6 pts · 1d (3 replies)

The current explosion in data centre expansion closely aligns with the explosion in AI services. So yes I agree that there must be a connection. Two years ago 8 billion people we were doing banking, using cloud computing services, streaming movies, storing 10000 work emails each, and all the behind the scenes industry needs, and that did not not need anywhere near the amount of data centres we do today. The AIs are very very hungry.

Taleya@aussie.zone · 1 pts · 1d (2 replies)

Not every DC is an LLM DC. Keep reading that line until you get it.

SituationCake@aussie.zone · 1 pts · 1d (1 reply)

Wow, thatโ€™s rude. Clearly I didnโ€™t say that? Since you know so much, what specifically are the 37 new data centres planned for Vic going to be used for? And why did we need so fewer of them only a year or two ago? Sure there will be varied uses but a huge amount must AI. AI is a tool, itโ€™s not good or evil, and itโ€™s here to stay. Most people understand that too, but at the same time they are observant and right to be asking questions about location, infrastructure, impact to power and water use, and public amenity. Which is why it is a topic of public debate.

Taleya@aussie.zone · 1 pts · 1d

Rude? I stated the fact that people are conflating datacentres as a whole with llm dcs.

you decided to construct a shitty, ranty strawman in response. That's on you. I don't care. It's nothing to do with what i said.

Not every DC is an LLM DC. Read that line until it sinks in.

Taleya@aussie.zone · 6 pts · 1d (3 replies)

Nono, i mean they literally think that datacentres only exist for LLM use.

Speaking as someone who's spent most of her professional career in telecommunication datacentres...

...no

Edit: basically people with little to no technical knowledge are conflating DCs and llms the same way they have pattern recognition AI and llms. Which is gonna be pretty fucking dangerous if some idiot gets it into their head to torch a colo that supports the local imaging hospital

StudChud@aussie.zone · 5 pts · 1d (2 replies)

DCs have been around doing essential stuff for years, agreed. Do I want the local methheads to steal copper from the DCs that are only for AIs? Yes. Yes I do.

Gibsonhasafluffybutt@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 1d

Arise meth heads. Crack awaits over yonder.

Taleya@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 1d

oh yes, we need to make sure they have nice big company branding on them so we know which ones have shall we say the richest ores

SaneMartigan@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 1d (1 reply)

If they were called Data harvesting and processing centre people might care more but I doubt it. The spy on you with all we've got centre didn't test well. "What is this? A centre for cunts?!" was heard shouted from one group.

StudChud@aussie.zone · 5 pts · 1d

"What is this? A centre for cunts?!"

Do you guys ever wonder if there's more to life than just being really really really ridiculously good looking?

imoldgreeeg@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 1d (3 replies)

Decided on meatloaf. And instant pot tomato sauce. Got a busy month so that will be good freezer fillers.

useless_modern_god@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 1d (1 reply)

I had to look up what instant pot tomato sauce was. Is that used on the meatloaf?

imoldgreeeg@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 1d

I did. And I kinda made it up. Onion, garlic, veg, tinned tomatoes and various spices and herbs in the pressure cooker. Enough for meatloaf or to go over beans or pasta or whatever.

SaneMartigan@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 21h

I fuckin love my instantpot.

Is Catfish saying Yarrabyte has joined the recent greats up in the sky?

Catfish@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 1d (1 reply)

King of Norway. YarraByte seems to have a bad case of dementia rather than death.
