Trump may be the least christian president of all time. When asked what his favorite bible quote was he said it was "an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth" from the old testament, which he very obviously did not understand was deprecated after Jesus in the new testament said to turn the other cheek. Trump understands nothing about Christianity. Christians who follow trump are incredibly hard for me to understand.
If a Christian sincerely uses this as a strategy they are truly misinformed on how their religion actually works. While it's true that pretty much every christian flavor believes that faith in Jesus Christ alone saves, and good works are not at all required to be saved. A sincere faith in Jesus Christ will be evidenced by doing good works. This is believed by protestants, Catholics and orthodox alike. The way this works out is that if you personally are not dedicating your life to doing good works according to your ability, your faith in Jesus is not sincere. And if your faith is not sincere, you're not being saved.
The same is true when it comes to sins. If you truly regret your sins you will be forgiven for those sins. But there is no way to cheat on this. God can read your mind and god understands you and your thoughts better than you do yourself. So simply thinking in your mind on your deathbed that you regret all your sins will not save you. You have to sincerely regret all your sins, and not only because those sins will keep you from entering into heaven, you have to regret those sins for their own sake.
Yeah, they read the bible. US Christology is pretty much much all bible based, they are mad for it.
The president released his own novel bible recently, I think he duct taped a KJV to something about guns that Americans love like a modern day Josephs Smith.
It's the land of bible schools all preaching slightly different novel Jesues derived almost exclusively from the 66 book canon from LDS to Billy Graham to Bart Ehrman, to Nexflix trying to keep them all happy.
I never realized how much Christians need to feel oppressed. It's a fetish for them. They will simply make it up in their heads when people stop paying attention to them.
A man is driving through County Tyrone, Northern Ireland, when he finds the road is blocked by a tree. Before he knows what's happening, masked men have shoved a gun in his face and signal to lower the window.
"Are you a Catholic or a Protestant?" the masked man shouts. The wrong answer could be fatal.
"I'm an atheist." the man replies.
"Yes, but are you a Catholic atheist or a Protestant atheist?" the masked man retorts.
Just like in Northern Ireland, a lot of these people aren't actually particularly religious. That should be obvious by their behaviour and the behaviour of the leaders they support. They don't actually believe in the tenants of the New Testament. They are using Christianity and the bible as a signifier of sectarian and ethnic allegiance.
What you're witnessing in the US, is in large part not religious fundamentalism. It is ethnic sectarianism.
It's fundamentally no different to Northern Ireland or the Balkans. The Butcher of the Bosnia identified himself as Serbian Orthodox, and claimed to be defending Christian Serbia from Muslims. He had been a loyal communist for decades before that, and as far as I know wasn't particularly religious at all.
TLDR: good luck America. And perhaps consider voting this time round.
Some yankistanis are fucking weird, like those Iranian morality policewomen, subjugating other women because others dare to not believe what they believe.

They think they’ve found a loophole, they can be as disgusting as they want to be as long as they do a deathbed, “oopsie, forgiveness please”.

Eh, American conservative christianity is a different beast, do you think these people study the bible?
I'm agnostic so it's all a little silly to me anyway.

I live in the "BIblE beLt", and you have just described, perfectly, how every single vocal Christian I've ever met seems to think.

I think a lot of them are of the Joel Osteen "prosperity gospel" ilk.

Protestant 'isreal must be owned by the jews for the rapture to occur' explains the vast majority of this nonsense.

If he had just a touch more intellect he'd qualify as the fucking anti-christ.

Lots of self-described "Christians" that had better pray they don't meet Jesus in the afterlife.
