That cops are spending time and effort to create fake circumstances (of a very real violation of rights) to arrest people that are acting from those societal rights being transgressed is disgusting.

Yes, it is truly tragic how flock cameras have perverted the goodwill and community stewardship of the police. /s

I am not sure why my comment deserved being shit on like that. As if I've praised them otherwise? This step they are taking is magnifying the "bastards" moniker and for sure in an exponentially shitty way.

Background: Cops have been murdering civilians with impunity for over a century. This ain't magnifying shit, it's par for the course.

Thanks for the history lesson. Let's just ignore it then. Business as usual, carry on and all that. My outrage is quelled.

This is the definition of both unnecessary and pointlessly provocative

entrapment?
superglue@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 11 pts · 8d
Unfortunately not, entrapment involves coercing a person to commit a crime they wouldn't have otherwise. Simply giving someone an opportunity to commit a crime isn't considered entrapment under the law.

Destroying a fake camera is a crime?
trebach@sh.itjust.works · 2 pts · 6d
Yes. It's still destruction of property regardless if it's real or fake.
cy888@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 6d
Destruction of a fake camera...fake camera have no value.
QueenHawlSera@piefed.social · 1 pts · 8d
Isn't that why the people on To Catch A Predator couldn't argue entrapment?
halcyoncmdr@piefed.social · 4 pts · 8d
No it's the same scenario as a prostitution sting, or a bait car for vehicle thefts. They provide the false situation but they aren't convincing anyone to do anything, they are still choosing to commit that crime on their own.
Even if whether these devices should even be legal in the first place is questionable. Legally, currently, they are private property being vandalized.

I put out cardboard cutouts of minorities on the streets and film cops as they beat them up.
timewarp@lemmy.world · 11 pts · 8d
I don't understand the charges because they appear to be based on real cameras
kibblebits@quokk.au · 4 pts · 8d
I don’t understand how the cops didn’t get shot at, but that’s just me.
timewarp@lemmy.world · -7 pts · 8d
Why would people be shooting at the cops?
kibblebits@quokk.au · 8 pts · 8d
👆 this guuuy amirite?
timewarp@lemmy.world · 0 pts · 6d
Are you trying to be edgy and indicate that people should shoot all cops? Do you think that sounds reasonable?
kibblebits@quokk.au · 0 pts · 6d
I’m not being edgy at all, magat.
timewarp@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 6d
So you're essentially an anarchist who believes in killing random cops?
kibblebits@quokk.au · 1 pts · 6d
I don’t think that you know what an anarchist is, And I don’t think you understand what a cop does for a living. It’s not protect and serve… the people.
athatet@lemmy.zip · 2 pts · 7d
Fucking lmao
muusemuuse@sh.itjust.works · 9 pts · 6d
Isn’t that entrapment?
Tar_alcaran@sh.itjust.works · 1 pts · 5d
No, entrapment is when a cop goes "Hey, wanna go vandalize Flock cameras with me? I'll give you ten bucks if you do. "
Malica@lemmy.zip · 4 pts · 8d
Dollar amount determines felony, how is that enough?
Master@sh.itjust.works · 3 pts · 6d
You can arrest them and charge them with a misdemeanor.
