Ottawa Councillor Riley Brockington, of River Ward, said he plans to work with residents to rename Trump Avenue—a residential street in the Central Park neighborhood—following the city's October election. He described the street's current name as an embarrassment, CBC News reported.
"Taco Avenue" is among the suggestions received, Councillor Tim Tierney told CNN. The proposed street name references an acronym coined in 2025 that means "Trump Always Chickens Out." The shorthand became popular online following the president's threats to implement steep global tariffs.
"I think the time has come when you look at the damage and carnage that the president has caused, including with our own country," Brockington said. "We're past the point of debating."
I have been looking online but I think my memory is from work so I can't find public examples but development applications include a list of street names, a reason for those names and they are generally all around a theme. It's not exactly the same thing, but cbc looked at Vancouver street names and you can see themes within neighborhoods https://newsinteractives.cbc.ca/longform/streets/
If someone dug up the original planning application it might say why those names were selected.
My guess is that it was probably considered generic enough back then, and a reference to the buildings that bear his name near Central Park. There is a hotel and two condos very close to the park with this name, all being renovated/renamed in the late 80s through 90s. The land for the subdivision in Ottawa was bought in 1996. Maybe the developer looked up to him?
This was before the Apprentice, for example. So while people might have known he was a bad dude if they followed the business world or civil rights it wasn't necessarily common knowledge. It's probably important that I specify "in Canada" or "in Ottawa". Coverage of his shenanigans would have been less outside of the states. Maybe the city employee who okay'd the name just wasn't aware?
The subdivision also has a street called Bloomingdales after the department store. Whitestone and Grammercy are (presumably) named for affluent neighborhoods. So I guess they were going to this idea of wealth and glamour?
Anyways, there are more rules about naming streets after people now. I think we've all learned that sometimes this doesn't age very well 😅

The council passed the tariff motion, but the measure does not mention Trump Avenue or formally begin the process of renaming it.
That's because this is not how roads get renamed. Council has to approve but it doesn't start with them.
One of the rules is that a street cannot be named after someone if the name will:
Convey, in the City’s view, a political or social advocacy message that could, offend, anger, or insult a third-party by way of its strategic location, timing or other factors that detract from the positive intent of commemorations.
Bonus hilarious example in an unrelated rule:
consists only of the individual's legal names (for example, "Jean-Paul Gagnon" or "Mary Jane Smith" is acceptable; "Big Daddy Gagnon" is not)
This guy can't even keep himself from cheating at golf constantly, he is incapable of making any kind of decisive act to de-escalate a conflict that requires his ego to be bruised, but he is also a coward so he waffles back and forth which is legitimately the most dangerous thing he could possibly do with his power.
