I've been trying... Parked my car years ago, now mainly walk or bike wherever I need to go. Unfortunately I still need a gas lawn mower because I take care of several yards and an electric (even if I could afford one) isn't going to cut it. (Pun not intended)
Rip out the lawns and replace with native vegetation, and no more (or at least a lot less) mowing needed. But I'm guessing you'll need to convince some other people as well by your phrasing.
ya I've done a little with mine but a long way to go. About 30% of my yard is tree and bush with chokecherries and some other wild berry among other things. (never planted them, they just decided to be there so I kept mowing around them.) My daughter's yard is a double lot and she has big dogs so maybe 20% there.
But those are the only two I have any influence in.
