Same story as with the gulf, they show the bullshit only to Americans.

They’ve been willing to play ball with authoritarian regimes for a long time.

That said, it looks like this in northern Europe

The gulf viewed in Canada:

More proof Alphabet, Google, and its employees support pedophilia, are fascists, and deserve to answer for their crimes.

How dare Trump try to fuck with the lyrics of The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald.

devdoggy@piefed.social · 1 pts · 1d (2 replies)

Wait, the Edmond Fitz sunk in Superior... How is the pedo pres fucking with the lyrics?

Diddlydee@feddit.uk · 3 pts · 1d (1 reply)

Lake Huron rolls, Superior sings In the rooms of her ice-water mansion. Old Michigan steams like a young man's dreams, the islands and bays are for sportsmen. And farther below Lake Ontario (America) Takes in what Lake Erie can send her.

Thank you. I used to work overnights at the aquarium here in Duluth, that song played on repeat and I've never, ever listened to the lyrics.

SpamTabulosa@feddit.uk · 12 pts · 2d (4 replies)

It shows "Lake Ontario" here in the UK, but "Gulf of Mexico (Gulf of America)" as well. Not sure why there is a difference- certainly I've never heard anyone use the phrase in brackets in conversation.

ohulancutash@feddit.uk · 4 pts · 2d (3 replies)

Which is the only reasonable way. A map has to be useful, it’s not their fault a government has changed things.

Wataba@sh.itjust.works · 6 pts · 1d (2 replies)

Their government didnt change things. They chucked a hissy fit and made unfounded demands, Google decided to appease the crybabies rather than having an ounce of integrity.

ohulancutash@feddit.uk · 0 pts · 1d (1 reply)

On a practical level, if a government decides to refer to it by whatever name in advisory notices and alerts, it’s useful to have the map reconcile with that name

Zedstrian@sopuli.xyz · 4 pts · 1d

No reasonable people are using their bullshit names for the Gulf of Mexico or Lake Ontario and no one should be encouraging it.

They took away HOMES, and now we have SHAME.

I, too, enjoyed that Bluesky post.

Still Lake Ontario here.

tortina_original@lemmy.world · 7 pts · 1d

Yeah, Americans are cowards.

cosmicrookie@lemmy.world · 7 pts · 2d

Nah... It's only there for the Americans

They just do whatever local law tells them to. I bet it shows a different name in non-Trumponia regions.

Davel23@fedia.io · 30 pts · 2d (1 reply)

It's an "executive order", not a law. Google has no reason to make the change other than to kiss the diaper.

0_o7@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 7 pts · 2d

But but but… yankistanis told me that US corporations are separate from the government, unlike Chinese ones, and don't have to follow unlawful orders.

It's all a lie?

justOnePersistentKbinPlease@fedia.io · 13 pts · 2d

Its not a law. All it is, is a request for the head of the US geological survey to ask their dept use a specific name on something.

It has zero legal weight.
