I love this movie. It's rough and a little odd, but that adds to its charm. Plus I'm a fan of the final showdown at the end, how the guy twists reality for the other one. It's pretty cool.
there's Cell (2016) starring Nic Cage and Samuel L Jackson, based on a Stephen King book, where people turn into zombies after hearing a signal secretly embedded into cell phone networks
Hot skulls is based around a contagion that makes people delirious. If you hear an infected person speaking, you become infected as well so everyone walks around with headphones on outside.
Yep. In Bird Box, the Monsters get you when you look at them. In A Quiet Place, when you speak (or make any other sound). So I'm looking for a Monster that gets you when you hear it.
Not much weirder than Bird Box. In it, you receive an immediate urge to kill yourself from seeing the monster. Something like this would work just as well for hearing it.
Some have already mentioned sirens in this thread, which also fit well.
Could be something Lovecraftian. Whispers in the dark that are always there, but only detectable by a select few until yadda yadda. Event Horizon comes to mind.

The Signalworks for the theme of sound being the danger but the poster doesn't visually.

I don't think this quite fits. We need "the act of hearing brings on evil"

The Whistle. Sadly, from 2025 not 2018. But anyone who hears the whistle blow, dies.
Not a great movie per se but it's efficient and goddamn, some of the kills were an absolute blast.

I think they're looking for one where listening is the evil.

Not a horror movie, and I have not seen it to verify, but the Odyssey should have sirens in it.

It does, but that's only like five minutes tops.
That movie certainly felt horror at times. Was really well done

So the monster can somehow sense people hearing it? Seems like a weird premise.
