I still don't understand how the sink in my bathroom gets dirty. Objectively the object in my household that is washed most often, yet regularly needs additional washing for whatever reason.

Something that gets wet and dries in a regular cycle is pretty much perfect for a bunch of microbial life.

BooBees@fedinsfw.app · 5 pts · 1d

Also wet lets airborne particles like dirt, dust, skin, snot flakes, a million other things - it lets those stick to the water spots that evaporate and glue those things to the surface, which also act as a breeding ground for bacteria, fungus, etc

because it's constantly wet and shit grows on the wet surface, though most of it's just soap scum and calcification from water

Me with my glasses for my entire life. Why haven't they invented dust-resistant lenses yet?

foggy@lemmy.world · 8 pts · 1d

Big Eyeglass Cleaner has been in cahoots with Big Eyeglass the whole time!

Rooster326@programming.dev · 2 pts · 1d

If they invented dust-resistant lenses. What would BIG T-shirt do? Crop tops would be everywhere

Zarobi@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 1d

My eyebrows and eyelashes are long enough to touch the lenses of glasses; they were constantly smoodgey and greasy. It bothered me so much I got laser eye surgery lol

How is that shelf dusty? I just dusted it, like 4 months ago smh

DrSoap@lemmy.world · 9 pts · 1d

My ceiling has a smudge. Where did that come from? How!?

dan1101@lemmy.world · 7 pts · 1d (1 reply)

It's very frustrating. Dust, spiderwebs, you can't just have stuff it's constant maintenance.

And some types of plastic degrade over time, cars rust, etc.

Hence the phrase

The things you own, own you

Until you have kids. Then everything is dirty but at least you know why.

When you're a parent it flips over. Now you're trying to figure out "how is that still clean"?

Siethron@lemmy.world · 5 pts · 18h

Well humans shed skin cells all the time. This creates a thin layer of dust over everything in about a week

db2@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 1d

After a certain point they don't really get dirtier. It's like zen or something idk.

FiniteBanjo@feddit.online · 4 pts · 1d
