Few years ago - Hunter Mountain, NY

My only ski-based camping trip so far. A fun time. Let me see your winter camping pics.

At my son's scout camping trip in 2025, sleeping in snow shelters we built. I put a plastic sled over the entrance to keep in a little heat while I slept. The nighttime low was around 7F (-13C).

Last winter we didn't have enough snow to build shelters. I have high hopes for this coming January!

Your trip looks awesome, too! The Catskills are great. I hope you get a lot more ski trips there, and up in the Adirondacks!

This is the John Robb lean-to via the Spruceton Trail. Easy skiing. Info on the trails here https://catskillmountaineer.com/HWK-hunter.html

I really want to do winter camping. I haven't gotten there, yet. But my first time backpacking a few years ago, was early spring, so it was 28f(-2.2222222c) and I was slightly under prepared. Still one of my favorite trips though!

I ended up using my butane stove to heat water in a water bottle 2 or 3 times in the night, because my bag was only rated to 40f. Lessons learned!

And yes those leaves are close to that fire, we cleared it out soon after this picture, we do better now.
