Disgusting!

I wonder if a tax on this would help? Like the government will reclaim 150% of costs associated with providing welfare to a company's employees from the company. Clearly, include administration fees and a fee fee. Maybe with tiers. 10% of employees, 150% of cost. 20% of employees, 200% of costs. Increasing as it goes. Include the part time workers.

"include the part time workers" i dont think this is good. Part time has a place.

Yes, but Amazon already forces people to be part time so as to avoid paying benifits. They won't give people full time hours while they advertise for more workers. So any penalties would need to be prorated per percentage of full time so at least there's no further incentive to avoid having full time positions.

Part-time employment is often used by employers to avoid paying benefits while normalizing grind culture

And why some asshole that owns only 8% of the company rather than the CEO?

muffedtrims@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 8d

Bezos is still chairman of the board. The CEO reports to the board.

New law: companies are ineligible for government grants/tax breaks if >5% of employees are on welfare. Take away their biggest cash cow until they pay their employees a living wage.

How about no one that has a job should be paid so little they need food assistance?

Alexstarfire@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 8d

... that's what losing the incentives would force Amazon to do.

You lost me at the 5% threshold for the impoverishment we should tolerate from the rich 🤔

ZapBeebz_@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 8d

Just trying to keep it somewhat achievable. An ideal world would absolutely be 0%

Too bad they're not afraid to be such huge pieces of shit. Probably because we continue to let them walk all over us and take what little we have.

You’d hope their security teams were always very busy, but I kind of doubt it at this point.

We should tax employers to fund their employees food stamps
