A middle schooler said she was raped. Then she was suspended from classes.

On-campus suspension, or OCS as students call it, is typically reserved for serious offenses — brawling in the hallway, bringing drugs to school, threatening teachers.

The incident that landed Larissa in the room that day was indeed serious: She had told school administrators that she was raped on campus.

They didn’t believe her. And as it turned out, neither did the police.

To school officials in Hobbs, this appeared to be an open-and-shut case. The two students had been dating before Larissa broke off their relationship in the weeks leading up to the incident behind the portables, according to her and her mother. Crucially, administrators who saw the video didn’t think she was fighting back or crying out — as Hobbs Municipal Schools Superintendent Gene Strickland described it to Searchlight, “the evidence that we were able to obtain did not indicate that the child was in distress.”

Oh the rape victim wasn’t properly distressed enough while she was raped?

Fucking idiots. This poor girl.

Every single time I see people bleating about cancel culture and rapists being cancelled unfairly, I think of girls like Larissa. How people claim this doesn’t happen, that we have rules in place, that rape victims are treated fairly…..it baffles me. There’s countless stories like these.

Hell, even in my corner of the PNW, a place that touts itself as a bastion of liberty and freedoms, we have had several teachers with credible accusations against them allowed to walk away with huge settlements and pick up other teaching jobs in different states. After sexually assaulting and raping students. And that’s not in the distant past, it’s right now.

I'm autistic and I freeze up when stressed. I tried telling once, it went very poorly just like this, then I never told again. During the rapes I was frozen in place and unable to move or speak, just cry silently. By their logic, I didn't get raped either.

I'm so sorry you were put into that position.

as Hobbs Municipal Schools Superintendent Gene Strickland described it to Searchlight, “the evidence that we were able to obtain did not indicate that the child was in distress.”

She said she did not consent so she was raped it's an open and shut case.

That Superintendent should be fired immediately.

It bothers me that the people investigating rape have no idea what it looks like.

Heyyy I know one of those teachers. Don't really want to go into detail; But they got caught and went to jail/prison? I never really looked into it honestly.

Ask for a meeting with these administrators, and then smack them in the mouth when they greet you. If they don't start fighting you within 5 seconds, then they've consented via omission and you get to do it again. If they fight you after that, they're overreacting and have to go to the naughty chair.
