Surviving in Type-9 heavy

Started doing space hauling to grind faction rep. Decked out my Type-9 heavy (752 tonne capacity with shields). I have some point defence turrets for missiles but no mounted hard point weapons (can’t dog fight in this tub anyway).

I play in a private instance so pvp isn’t an issue but I’m getting jumped by NPCs.

What I’ve tried: submitting to the interdiction to let my FSD cool faster and I made sure that crimes against me are reported.

I still get carved up bad.

I’ve read about “high wake” to avoid their gravity influence but I’m not sure what that means exactly.

Any tips or advice is welcome! I have over 1.6 billion credits so if I need to spend it’s not an issue.

When you drop out of SC, plot a route to another star system. Then FSD won't be slowed down by the mass of ships nearby

But in my experience the best is to just get good in escaping interdiction. I mean winning that mini-game with blueish tunnel. It's definitely doable in a T9. Also, that ship has better yaw than roll, so switch to pitch&yaw scheme. You don't need to be roll-aligned to anything to win interdiction game

@INeedMana Is it weird my favorite all-arounder loadouts are based on the Type 9 and 10?

Yes. I'm sorry
If that's any consolation, I know there is more like you
;D

I'm Alliance-ships kind of weirdo (Chieftain, Crusader, Challenger)

@INeedMana To be fair, my Type 10 has lasered through ships like butter and I've dropped in on Federation folks like I was Nero in Star Trek, but my Type 9 can at least defensively hold its own....

I had a buddy that loved to use T10 to ram NPCs. He would take "kill civilians" mission (that sounds worse than it was. We were focusing on BGS, so time equals INF) and just plough through them

@INeedMana When I need something more nimble, I bust out the Alliance Crusader myself.

Just in case you don't know: setting throttle to 75% (blue marker) gives best maneuverability.

Also I think with that money you could buy a panther clipper for higher profits by now.

Win the interdiction, which may be difficult in a type 9 but can be done.

Better shields and hull will help you survive, and to a lesser extent, thrusters. Military hull and shield boosters. Then engineering them will make you nearly invincible from NPCs.

Other alternatives include the Panther or the Cutter (faster, strongest shields).
