This is such good news! Next up is increasing renewables to the point that coal doesn't only reduces in percentages but also in absolute numbers. And preferrably world wide, not only in China. I can dream I suppose.

This 'news' is pure propaganda. China spread it 5 or so weeks ago already, and now it pops up again.
The total coal consumption is on the rise in China, and it will be so for the next five years as it plans its peak of coal use in 2030. It doesn't say when it plans to exit coal entirely.
Meanwhile in the EU, coal has long peaked. The bloc's coal power share hit a record low in 2025, collapsing to 9.2 percent. Phase out is scheduled by 2030.

I think reporting solar "capacity" is a little confusing or deceptive. But this is still an important milestone, and it's a real figure.

The real figure is that China's coal use is rising, and even the Chinese government says it will be rising at least until the end of this decade. China will also increase its fossil fuel consumption by 8-10 percent in the next five years, according to the Chinese Communist Party's own plan.
It is important to note that neither country is on track to meet the Paris goal, but China is much worse than the EU regarding its climate actions.
These headline are popping you once in a while, but it has nothing to do with reality. It's just about framing a bad development in a way so that it makes China great again.

Consumption and capacity are not the same thing. I agree that reporting on solar "capacity" is a little confusing/deceptive, but this is still an important milestone.
