It's Friday, I'l be off for the weekend and on vacation for the next two weeks.
My coworker as the habit of spending the day on his phone, call after call, instead of actively enganging in communication with me, which for the line of work we do, with a certain degree of danger ever present, is very much necessary.
I went to sleep later than usual yesterday - voluntarily - and spent a horrible night due to the heat. I'm tired and I know I will be yawning for the entire morning, not as capable of multi tasking as I usually am and a bit slower to respond when talked to. I'll be extremely annoying to be around, for the "hyper" my coworker usually is.
And I don't care.
Per their own words: "I'm first and everything else comes after."
I'm semi-out for the day. Not going to pick up any slack. And while I'm out on vacation, there is a lot of work to be done and I am not going to prepare anything in advance to make it easier. They can sweat a bit.

All those things you listed sounds like human. Not bad or horrible - just human.
Is it in your job description to babysit other employees?
Tho in reality, future you might not be happy - because those people won't figure it out. But let's face it: even if you leave a detailed plan behind, it wouldn't make any difference.
Enjoy your vacation, just leave your work phone at home.

No, it is not. But I care. And that is a concern.
For the future, I predict my willingness to care will diminish. I'll keep to my tasks and responsabilities alone and let the rest burn until someone above notices.

In my line of work I often find it important to remember: You bake a pie for the party but you cut a slice for yourself.
It's good to care, helping each other is the only reason we've ever made it this far as a species, but if you don't make sure your needs are met first you'll only have your burdens to share. In a perfect world this isn't a worry, off everyone pours from their cup to everyone then everyone drinks the same amount, but we do not live in that world, so you need to drink your own before you share because others may not share in return.
You're willingness to care is diminishing because you aren't saving a slice of your pie for yourself and if you starve to death feeding others then everyone goes unfed.

You are right. No argument whatsoever from my part.
I am very much aware the environment I am working in is rife with bad habits and entrenched vices, with people I can hardly consider - for my chagrin - of similar ethical standing as me. It makes for a hard setting to navigate.

It is not a bad thing to care. You should care. It makes you healthy if you do so - turning numb is not a good thing.
The trick is the measure of how much should you care about things :)

A good team will anticipate anyone in Holiday Mode and treat it as a soft start.
The day(s) before someone goes on holiday, the team should be stepping up to cover them, sort of like a dry run of them not being there.

I don't have a good team. But I agree with your words. I've done that since I started working.

Call in sick bro, you deserve it.

Nah, I'm having fun. If I yawn any wider, I'll break by my jaw line. It gets really annoying.
