91 and driving a Tesla. The well-to-do and decrepit get to keep their car keys at the expense of other people's lives.

Geeze, I thought this was the target audience for self driving and auto-not-run-over-humans-ing cars? =\

Tesla fails once again.

The driver, a 91-year-old

Driving is a privilege and should be treated as such.

Was it the Tesla or the licenced ancient inside? We will never know because it's her word against Tesla's and Tesla is notorious at covering these things up.

As much as I hate Tesla, elderly drivers are notorious for flooring the gas when trying to brake. She's ancient at 90, which is likely the cause.

Yeah, that's what I think. But it ain't the usual champagne Toyota Camry situation...

Side rant, but this is happening more and more.

EVs have no business having instant Ferarri performance when you briefly brush the accelerator pedal with a feather.

We’re not used to having this instant reaction from the accelerator pedal, but we are from the brake pedal.

And the fix is so simple: don’t allow “instant takeoff” in a built up areas geofence.

You can just change the setting in the car. I put mine on the slower mode and the acceleration and pedal response is muted.
