Nope, never. Cheating to me seems like such a petty thing to do. Like something only a small person would do. I feel like usually it's done to hurt the other person deliberately, so instead of solving the relationship problem head on, they choose to hurt the other person as revenge/punishment/whatever.

Nope. Cheating is almost always better as a porn fantasy than a real thing. It can turn very ugly very quickly when it happens for real.

No, I've always ended a relationship before starting something new.

Tend to have long term, between five and ten years on average, relationships separated by a year or so single.

That year+ for you to simmer in solo life is clutch, IMHO.

Hell, humans across the globe could benefit from a "gap year" between many/most of life's big events, honestly. ☝🏼 I mean, don't we each deserve a decent transition period between them, FFS?

Yes.

I'd just gone to university, my partner didn't and stayed at home. They got very jealous of my university friends and flatmates, being unreasonably hateful towards people I met who were same gender as them... But was OK when I went back home to visit them.
if they came down to visit me, always wanted me to withdraw socially with them, rather than get to know the people and place.

After a few months of that, middle of the spring term I started chatting to someone at a party who was going through a divorce after marrying young. We kept chatting, then about our relationship experiences, and kept drinking.

I ended up heading back with them once things died down because it was closer, but ended up doing an awful lot of not sleeping.

I told my partner a few days later, and our relationship was ended within a week of that.
I felt a bit crappy and some guilt about it.

Feel more guilt about times I've broken up with people for feeling it's not been making them, or me, better/happier/saner, though - and perhaps the most guilt from breaking up with a partner in non-monogamy who didn't want children to get into a monogamous relationship where kids were on the table.

No, never have. I also never had a life full of exciting sexual situations and growing up I never found anyone until I was 25 before my first real anything. So 1 and done, been married for 13 years now. I think there was a brief moment years back were I think she almost cheated on me, but I am pretty positive she never did. I saw texts between her and a friend where it seemed like it was going to happen but I confronted her and she swears she didn't (I know hard to believe) but things went back to normal after and never seen anything indicate otherwise. And no she is not that smart to hide stuff so I would absolutely would have found out.

As for me, I often thought about if I could cheat. Years back I would say absolutely not, but these past few years I now say I guess it's a great thing I am absolutely not desirable and preoccupied with kids and life to ever be put into a situation where that would ever be an option. I would love to think I would do the right thing, but life is really hard and when your partner is starting to slow down in that area and theres still a thousand things I would love to try, it kind of hurts thinking this just isn't in the cards for my life. Yes we have talked about it, if theres anything I am ok at it is communication and we do have an ok sex life, but after years of basically discovering everything there is from this one and they don't really understand what i mean by looking for something new it is kind of hard to figure out what else to do. Also for the record I was also her first and should be only partner as well. Guess time will tell what happens.

No, I couldn't.

But I've wondered what my reaction would be if I found out someone was cheating on me. Mostly I figure I want whoever I'm with to be happy and if what they need is to be physical with someone else, I might sort of accept that, although I would want to know what I should be doing differently.

Most of this stuff happens in secrecy, though, and you'd only ever find out if certain patterns start changing. It's not like your partner will suddenly say 'hey fyi I'm banging someone else'

Would you like to? Wink wink

wyldrstallyns@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 2 pts · 7d (4 replies)

Nope, but I've had several LTRs where that was the breaking point for me.

So, maybe I'm less likely to do that to someone else, knowing all too well what it feels like.

Not like that's the healthiest reason, but yeah. πŸ˜’πŸ€·πŸΌβ€β™‚οΈ

Knowing the pain you would cause personally is not a bad reason, it's just confirmation about how hurtful it is which further cements your morals/actions.

100%, for sure! I meant more that the experiences that engendered said outlook weren't healthy to be a part of. If I could go back and simply trust others' wisdom on the same, maybe I'd be better off β€”though believing I'd do differently is fanciful, tbh. πŸ˜…πŸ€·πŸΌβ€β™‚οΈ Sometimes, that FAFO is a formidable habit.

Oh I completely misread you, mb! πŸ™ But yes, I also require several rounds of FAFO to learn life's lessons, lol. πŸ™ƒ

yes and no. when I was a wee one in, lets say in collage, my gal pal cheated on me, so I had sex with one of her friends because I knew she would find out about it. and she did. and broke up with me over it. she cheated first, but we were still a couple. so I revenge cheated, I guess? still, makes me feel kinda shit now as an adult. but she did it first. not that that's a good excuse. still to this day, she does not speak to the girl I did the deed with. even though my ex and I have become friends again. weird.

quediuspayu@fedinsfw.app · 2 pts · 8d (1 reply)

I've never had the chance. Would or could I? I don't really know.

ArgumentativeMonotheist@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 4d

Fair, cautious and wise. Hopefully (if that's what you want) you'll find someone soon!

When i was an immature teenager and felt that it was the correct way forward, yes. To be fair, this was a very shallow relationship and we hadn't determined exclusive or non exclusive yet.
