The anime series is a complete self-contained story.
das Finale is fantastic, but there is a complete cut-off point between it and the original series, no sequel bait.
So I highly emcourage watching the original series. Preferably with the absolutely hilarious fansubs.

Part 4 is so good and I have extremely high expectations of Part 5 and 6 that I'm lowkey afraid of disappointment.
