Reddit Users Threaten To ‘Review Bomb’ Pinterest (not a good idea)

Make no mistake, I do believe Pinterest has problems. Many, many problems. But, I personally don’t think that ‘review bombing’ is any sort of way to solve such issues. That’s not going to do anything, and might even just make more issues.

Sooo you created a Pinterest community just for this?

ReconciliationTime22128@sh.itjust.works · 5 pts · 3d (3 replies)

Well, no. This is 1 post. I and others will post much more (hopefully) in the future. This is just to break the ice.

Edit: also I find it strange that nobody else has created a Pinterest community before (unless it’s one of those things which is looked down on by users of this platform, who knows?)

I think it's totally valid to create more communities even if it would be just for one post. If you think others might find it interesting then why not. They aren't forced to engage with it. If you want more visibility you can also cross post to other communities.

I'm just not sure to grasp any interest on Pinterest, beyond the website of Pinterest itself? Like isn't there a possibly to comment or exchange there already? Like creating a twitter community, or a bluesky community on Lemmy, what would be the purpose?

what’s your question?

artwork@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 4d (9 replies)

May I ask why do you believe it's "not a good idea"?

ReconciliationTime22128@sh.itjust.works · 1 pts · 3d (6 replies)

Because it’s not going to do any good. Why waste time trolling when we could be doing something that might be more constructive in this area?

DarrinBrunner@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 3d (3 replies)

Because it’s not going to do any good.

They might have fun.

Do you have a suggestions re: other action they can take that would, in your opinion, "do some good"?

ReconciliationTime22128@sh.itjust.works · 1 pts · 3d (2 replies)

Maybe a protest or a petition? Something like that I guess.

OwOarchist@pawb.social · 1 pts · 3d (1 reply)

Just stop using Pinterest.

Maybe make your own open-source alternative, if you're feeling particularly spicy about it.

I do hope you don’t mean me, because my previous reply was aimed at those who would do such things (I’m not on a crusade to change Pinterest, except exposing criminal activity from the inside, which I can’t go into any further detail here, but isn’t relevant anyway). My point is, if any of them who want to read this, my advice is, do something more helpful than what is effectively spam.

artwork@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 3d (1 reply)

I see. Well, I believe any actions is already an action, and must be appreciated.
Some people just do not know best venues for their actions, but still try to participate and improve whatever they want, whenever they can.

It's not the User issue they are trying to solve, but the service's that hasn't provided better options for them they found useful enough in the first place.

ReconciliationTime22128@sh.itjust.works · 1 pts · 3d

I understand your point, I just don’t think that review bombing is the best strategy, unless the people doing it have some sort of specific, litigious line to follow that outcomes to an improvement. I somehow don’t feel like social media corporations particularly value reviews in the same way they used to, so long as they get the clicks and the cash.

Fuck Pinterest, it's all AI slop now.

ReconciliationTime22128@sh.itjust.works · 2 pts · 1d

True. You know what? You’ve inspired me to make this a ‘fuck Pinterest’ community. Well done

Weird first post

TrickDacy@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 2d (1 reply)

Weirder than literally watching a third party website obsessively to know if someone downvoted you so you can then promptly ban anyone who does?

Pretty sure this post cannot be weirder than that.

Remember how this place has a toxicity issue?

You hunting down profiles and replying to them in unrelated communities and topics is toxic.

Projection at its finest.
