Um, can I get an answer key?

AnarchoEngineer@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 21 pts · 6d (3 replies)

I know the ESP32-S3 can technically boot linux, however idk if it counts as “mainline” since I think the kernel does need to be modified slightly

Edit: Turns out the mainline kernel does include support for xtensa CPUs now, so ESP32-S3 is supported

9point6@lemmy.world · 11 pts · 6d (1 reply)

That would not be mainline

Mainline basically means you've cloned the source from Linus' repo, applied no patches to it (incl distro patches) and built that

AnarchoEngineer@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 12 pts · 6d

Turns out I was wrong about modifications being needed since linux-xtensa has now been merged into mainline linux: Kernel Github Repo

mvirts@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 4d

Damn and I was about to look that up

DarkSirrush@piefed.ca · 7 pts · 6d

Damn, between the text offsets and the gradients, I had to open the image properly to see it was 100% svg. Good job, you got me. ^^should have rotated some of the text for extra fun though.^^

redbrick@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 6d

I'm not surprised. Linux can boot on nearly all sorts of shit. Shoot, I wouldn't be surprised if the recently discovered fruit fly brain is already running linux, cause they are playing doom on it! LOL

the_grass_trainer@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 5d

A-all of them??

SW42@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 6d (3 replies)

The FPGA could technically do it I guess, but not OOTB

Treczoks@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 5d (2 replies)

Depends on what CPU it simulates. Probably a RISC-V. It would be a big waste of resources.

Some Xilinx chips do have real ARM cores that do run Linux and Android.

SW42@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 5d (1 reply)

I’ve worked with Zynq Processors ;) What I meant was that the FPGA has to load a bit file before booting so technically it can’t boot mainline Linux OOTB

Treczoks@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 5d

We jumped Xilinx before we proceeded to Zync, so I don't know the details, but loading the FPGA is not something I'd count here. E.g. a Raspberry Pi loads a bootloader before loading the kernel, and a PC loads it's bios first.

Samsy@lemmy.ml · 2 pts · 6d

Rockchip 3399 it is.

lemme guess, its all of them?
