I’ve always found this advice funny. If I do what I hate first thing in the morning, then I won’t get anything else done.

Isn’t this ADHD or am I tripping?

aceshigh@lemmy.world · 7 pts · 5d (20 replies)

I don’t have adhd. I prefer creating a list and doing the hard thing last, otherwise I’ll be so emotionally drained from doing the hard thing, that I won’t be able to do anything else.

Uhh… that’s not normal dude. That’s exactly how ADHD works, stressful events affect you in ways you can’t handle dealing with other stuff.

Telodzrum@lemmy.world · 12 pts · 4d (11 replies)

That’s also just how stress works.

I really hate this tendency of the internet to pathologize every single human quirk.

Have you ever forgotten someone's name quickly after you met them? omg you probably have ADHD!

plantfanatic@sh.itjust.works · 2 pts · 3d (4 replies)

The thing you’re ignoring, is it if happens everytime, that’s the problem.

Just because you don’t understand something doesn’t mean people are “pathlogizing” it. Maybe you are just missing something. Like the frequency….?

This was very defensive for a comment that was not directed at you. I'm 100% sure you know yourself best and whatever diagnosis has been helpful to you is probably real.

plantfanatic@sh.itjust.works · 1 pts · 3d (4 replies)

An adhd makes it so everything else is a struggle.

If you piss it’s normal, but if you piss 40 times a day it’s time to see someone.

Telodzrum@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 3d (3 replies)

That’s neat and all. Do you think that stress taking up mental and physical bandwidth is unique to ADHD sufferers?

plantfanatic@sh.itjust.works · 1 pts · 3d

If it’s affecting your life, it’s time to see a doctor.

It’s not about the “bandwidth” and you’re being totally ignorant of the issues neurodivergent people suffers.

It’s the more the tank is constantly on 10% because of various issues, while a normal person can recharge from various “things” to top up.

It’s not normal to be constantly fatigued and frustrated, if you think THAT is, get some help.

I thought adhd meant that you struggle to get things done and you lose focus? I’m productive. My room is clean and organized/I don’t lose things, I’m not late on things, I plan things out and then execute them. Stressful events are emotionally exhausting for me, but I don’t avoid them. I listen to my energy and take breaks when I need to.

E: I think adhd can be confused with other things like trauma.

A lot of NDs have overlapping symptoms. We also live in a world where we're forced to adapt, so coping mechanisms and masking developed subconsciously make it even more difficult to really tell what is the underlying cause of some behaviors.

Maybe you have ADHD, maybe you don't. People are not able to diagnose you based on a single comment. As long as you feel like you're tackling life well and aren't constantly struggling, I wouldn't worry too much.

ADHD doesn't necessarily mean that you have Executive Disfunction, but they frequently come together. You can have ADHD, and still be highly functional.

Viceversa@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 4d

That’s exactly how ADHD works

Preferential order of execution isn't exclusive to ADHD, don't be silly.

Glytch@lemmy.world · 0 pts · 3d (1 reply)

Don't diagnose others neurodivergence via a forum post, especially when they didn't ask you to. It's unlikely that you will do so accurately and that can be damaging to others' mental health journeys.

Tldr: butt out

plantfanatic@sh.itjust.works · 1 pts · 3d

I didn’t diagnose them, I provided information. How could that be construed as a diagnosis?

TLDR take your own advice and Butt out and fuck off yourself.

If someone complains that everytime they step it hurts, it’s not diagnosing them to say that’s not normal and explain why. If they want to see a doctor, that’s their prerogative. I didn’t tell them to go get checked.

This is such bad advice, if I needed to do what I hate right after getting out of bed, I would never get out of bed

drolex@sopuli.xyz · 7 pts · 4d

Except if getting out of bed I the thing you like the most.

I love my family, but use reminders to actually call them at times that are good for them. Days are long but years are short.
