I wish I could remember the name of the first movie I saw where the bad guy actually won. Shit was a trip. I can't even remember who was in it, but I think I recall it was about a father whose daughter started dating this creepy guy who turned out to be a rapist and serial killer or something. Dad tries to prove this to his family and they don't believe him because the boyfriend is super charming and shit, but in the end he does end up killing the entire family and getting it pinned on the father.
I think it's more that basic story beats are predictable and can get kinda stale after a while. When you know the heroes are always going to win, it doesn't really matter how precarious their situation becomes because somehow they'll wiggle out to go beat the big bad guy at the end
