If you use the wrong hand you spread the blades apart and the don't cut. The correct hand pushes the blades together for a smooth cut. Ask me how I know.

That makes so much sense.

Probably also explains why I could get razor-sharp cuts to start and then by the end of the blade the papers would just be getting folded into the gap.
