That website is painful.

Tldr is that two Bangladesh soldiers died while test firing a Chinese Type 57 tank when it exploded.

soo.... weapons are dangerous, american people don´t belive that

BlueOysterCultist@lemmy.zip · 23 pts · 2d (3 replies)

That’s a pretty gross oversimplification

They’re using a +60 year old tank. If it exploded when they fired it, either the breach or barrel failed in some way that couldn’t contain the ammunition.

That means they probably weren’t properly maintaining or inspecting it. Weapons can be safe if they’re treated properly (and you’re not on the business end of them).

and you’re not on the business end of them

Definitely a important fact to consider :)

Saying that.... Well... even a well maintained and inspect weapon is still dangerous, maybe more dangerous, just for a different party :)

It could have been operator error and fired out of battery. There's no information on the cause yet.

Yeah, made 60 years ago.

Brutal video, probably should have a warning for graphic content on this post. The soldier in the turret got destroyed by that blast, terrible.

I wouldn't fight in any military anyways, but I especially could never be a tanker, I get claustrophobic pretty easily.

That video is linked on a whole other (demonstrably fascist) website that requires a login. Nobody owes you a warning for what you might see if you go down a rabbit hole.

I'm curious, are you this stupid professionally, or is it just a hobby?

  1. No it doesn't require a login to view, I literally just clicked and watched it.
  2. I never said or implied that anybody "owes" me a content warning. It was merely a suggestion out of care & concern for other people who might be sensitive to this sort of content.

There was a video a while back, I think it was demolition ranch, where they fired the main gun on a Sherman. They pulled the trigger with a lanyard while all of them were dozens of yards away. I thought it was silly at the time. Now I understand why.

Well also it's an 80 year old tank, it doesn't matter how well maintained and built it is anything that old is going to have issues or the potential for issues. Better safe than sorry and all that. Also a cannon is notably more violent than say an engine and steel can and will act weird with age.

western weapons never fail, of course

dawg i don't even know what company they're made by, what on earth are you on about

deft@lemmy.wtf · 2 pts · 1d (3 replies)

Then why the hell are you out here simping for one. Your brain screwed up or something?

kuiskaaja@lemmy.ml · 2 pts · 1d (2 replies)

i'm just saying that chinese made products aren't worse like the title implied

stop being so angry pls i don't give a shit about the company that makes them

deft@lemmy.wtf · 2 pts · 1d (1 reply)

I don't understand what makes me angry? The title doesn't imply anything, it just states a fact. A Chinese tank failed and two Bangladeshi soldiers died as a result.

You literally jumped in to defend the company that makes them or did you just wanna defend China? I don't understand why you'd need to do either lol

it_wasnt_arson@awful.systems · 1 pts · 18h

Do you think the title would've mentioned an "All-American" tank if it had been a 60 year old M48, or do you see the bias at play?
