Could AI really 'kill us all by the end of the decade'? | BreakThrough News

AI could kill every human on Earth by the end of the decade, warns ex-Anthropic researcher Jacob Coxon. If it sounds like a sci-fi headline, that’s the point, says Dr. Thejas Wesley, postdoctoral associate at MIT. The problem, Wesley argues, is not nascent digital consciousness breaking free, but the "reckless behavior by the tech companies to unleash these technologies with reckless abandon," along with the same corporate cost-cutting logic that led to disasters like the East Palestine, Ohio train derailment or the BP Deepwater Horizon spill. In other words: AI won't kill us all – but capitalism might if we don't stop it.
