Valve just officially revealed Steam Frame's price, announced that it comes with standalone Half-Life: Alyx, and opened reservations to secure a unit.
First revealed 10 months ago, Steam Frame is a "streaming-first" standalone VR headset with a USB dongle in the box that creates a point-to-point wireless connection between your PC and the headset.
Steam Frame comes in two storage variants, a 256GB model for $1059 or a 1TB model for $1299.
Both storage SKUs come with the headset, tracked controllers, and USB dongle.
To be clear, though, the headset has a microSD card slot, so you aren't limited to the onboard storage.

Anyone seen any review where they use the Frame with a Linux PC? I.e. game streaming etc. The fact that the device itself runs Linux makes searching difficult

Zamundaaa (a KDE dev) has said that it works from regular Linux desktop but not from SteamOS game mode (gamescope) here: https://discuss.tchncs.de/comment/28178194
Since they probably have a unit for KDE development it should work just fine.

That’s what I’m wondering too.
From what I remember, they said it would be around the same price as the Index which was $999 USD. My guess is that that was the price of the 1 TB since the 256GB would be competing against the Meta Quest 3. I got my 512GB 2 years ago for less than $400. Couldn’t imagine them placing the 256GB at $1k prior to this RAM crap if competing against that. Meta increased their price too or at least announced they would.
What could have been…

Damn expensive, but if Meta is a deal breaker (it is for me), then there's really not many other wireless headsets it competes with. Maybe the galaxy xr with better displays but way, way more expensive.
At any rate, steamOS is certainly more exciting than yet another android system in my opinion, though that hardly matters for just streaming. It's refreshing that gaming is the focus, I threw up in my mouth a bit when galaxy xr called themselves ai -powered on their site. It's a bit unclear what they actually mean by that, so I'm just going to assume the primary goal is to run some 4b model or whatever locally: the screens are probably good enough to read the text output with relative ease.
Back to the frame and streaming: given that you can't yet stream from the steam machine to the frame, I have doubts you can do it from any Linux desktop yet, though hopefully that's resolved soon.

I wonder what the speed of the Micro SD slot will be at. Same as Steam Deck? Because my SD card slot is noticeably slow when downloading and updating games. I reserve it exclusively for retro emulation which still suffers on some Xbox/PS2 titles and newer. I had to move some Xbox 360 and PS3 games to SSD to get some better performance. It wasn’t much, but improved a bit.
What would be even nicer is the ability to upgrade the SSD like the Deck. Even if it’s 2230 which is pricier. I think it was confirmed they are soldered on?
