Ended up calling them last night. I don't think I'm going to 'get my way' here with an assessment.
Speaking to her, she's refusing to eat the soup I did for her because I'm pushing for this assessment. She tried to make her own but the way she does it isn't balanced. Might have been spite, or she's trying to prove she doesn't need to get checked out or both.
Their 8 days away without proper nutrition has done a number on her mind (again).
So going to have to capitulate and just accept it isn't going to happen.
Sort of had a feeling this might backfire. Still think it's the correct thing to do though but I'm backing off.
No point feeling bad about it, was worth a go. Heading back to melbs tm to try and pick up the pieces.

Which is actually a fair description of an aged care home, but her mental picture of such places was very very out of date and she was very very hostile. Think of all the horror stories of Victorian era 'madhouses'. Like Bedlam etc. Faced with that prospect, she got very very hostile to the thought of being 'locked up'. It's possible your mum has a similar weird mental image of such places too. And would rather die than allow that to happen to her.
When push comes to shove, though, it is in the end her decision.
I've read anything I can get my hands on written by Jane Harper lately, but was recently struggling with a book that seemed too romancey and uninteresting to me. Wow, what a disappointing departure in style, I thought. Where is the gritty tension of The Dry I thought. Realised it was by Jane E Harper, completely different person 🤦🏼♀️At least Iain Banks and Iain M Banks were the same person!

New system goes live in 2 weeks. Well, new system for 1/3 of the business, the other 2/3 will still be using the old system. Which means I get to use 2 systems. I have, in a burst of productivity, redone my first aid kit.
Thrown out the old/borderline expired stuff, added some items for the kind of incidents I know I have and so on. I have
1x pair nitrile gloves, for dealing with anyone else’s mess if need be
2x alcohol disinfectant wipes
1x roll strapping tape
1x gauze dressing pad
1x small bottle of Betadine
1x box GOOD bandaids
1x small roll Hydralyte tabs (5 doses) for the “I’ve been pukey, now dehydrated AF” experience
1x box Panadol
1x tube aloe vera gel for burns
1x pack throat lozenges, my preferred
1x pair tweezers
1x pair scissors
1x eye drop guide thingy. I hate putting drops in, I flinch away if anything gets too near my eyes, but if I put this over the neck of an eye-drop bottle it’s less of an issue. I’ve had it for years, but now it’s in a known spot

One of those foldy space blankets . The silvery thermal kind that you can slip into a pocket. Good for shock. Antiinflammatories. Antihistamines. Charcoal tabs (they don't expire) great for the rankest of farts
Bottle of saline solution. Instant cold pack - the kind you bend to activate. Safety pins. More dressing pads, and some of those weirdly sticky plasfilm bandages they put on tattoos cos you can put them over a bandaid/gauze pad and shower in them.

I saw a woman I did not recognise stop in front of my neighbours house, take a photo of the house number, then take photos of pot plants. ( It's a very small suburb and at this hour we get joggers, dog walkers and people going to the train station, I recognise nearly everyone )
then she did the same at my place, took photos of front of house with numbers and took pictures of pot plants
I rapped on the window hard and she walked away quickly, then I yelled at her from the balcony and told her I would tell my neighbours and we would move everything
she said she was looking at nice flowers and using google because she wants to know what they are so she can make a nice garden for her son . Did not say sorry. She hurried away 🤨
I don't think you're overreacting, but also she may not have been lying.
I often take photos out and about, of flowers, bugs, or nice views. Sometimes a bug or flower will be on someone's property so I zoom in or crop to avoid any identifying info. Like, I could see her explanation as being the truth, but I also don't think you overreacted.
I don't think you were over-reacting at all. Could be a number of explanations, but the fact that she pixed house numbers seems very sus to me too.
If she comes back, take a picture of her and send an email to the local cop shop just in case. . Funny how people like taking pix but don't like being pixed back.
Might be planned to snitch pot plants for re-sale at a market up the country. It's been known to happen. As has people nicking flowers from cemeteries for the same purpose.

She used to work in psych wards so that makes a lot of sense.

That's not overreacting.
'so she can make a nice garden for her son' makes it a bit more suss.
That said some people over the years have taken pictures of my front garden but it was obvious it was just for flowers and nothing else.
If it happens again you should offer her a cutting and then you'll know ;)

possum stories
I saw a cute big brushie last night out in the park area across the road, I could see her pouch and I think she had young ones
a neighbour a few doors down had most of the leaves on their citrus trees eaten
a neighbour in the other direction has funny looking oranges, half peeled fruit hanging on the trees, possums ate the peel on the trees
I haven't seen the two ring tails since I shooed them away, the tree in the front yard might grow back
