I'm 26 and I've been alive for all that too. Felt the repercussions in school, and the workforce. I'm a byproduct myself, I dropped out of college during Covid. Did you have diseases that weren't STIs in college? Then welcomed to the worst job market with mass layoffs and a system dripping in ineptitude. People with degrees can't get jobs they studied and prepared for, college grads can't get minimum wage jobs. My generation has the lowest spending power of any previous generation, with the greatest cheeto-made inflation skyrocketing prices.

This isn't a stick measuring competition, just to say everyone is feeling bad rn and that's not OK. It's a class war, not a culture war. If only I could convince my parents that classes aren't just for schools
Most individuals and media outlets that used “millennial” as a derogatory descriptor clearly just meant “young people” since they continued using it for Gen Z anyway. So fuck all the ageist drivel. As far as I’m concerned Gen Z are young millennials. I don’t care who was born in ‘99 vs ‘00, who’s old enough to remember 9/11, or whatever other arbitrary delineation has been proposed. We share too many of the same problems to be divided that easily.
Unsure what the generation was but I suppose the poor bastards who served in WWI and then came home to be hit with the Great Depression shortly after felt similarly. And they didn't even have memes! (Or, for the most part, warm showers.)
Millennials had nothing to do with Y2K except hear about it. The older generations were the ones that actually made sure it didn't impact everyone like it was being predicted.
You think we weren’t, as teenagers, huddled around thinking the world was going to end? I was 13 and distinctly remember thinking, based on all the sensationalist reporting that had bombarded my tiny pubescent brain, that all the electronics were going to fail and the world would devolve into anarchy.
No connection? Tell that to my friend who lost his aunt, my classmate who lost her cousin, or even all of us Millennials who suddenly had fighter jets flying overhead all day every day, jingoism, militarization, and on and on, as a brand new form of all-encompassing daily life.
How do you figure we didn't have any connection to 9/11? Many of us lost loved ones or friends that day and the world is still feeling the fallout from that event.
Compare that to Y2K. No millennials, or very very few, were directly affected. It was a nothing burger because of the older folks who quietly handled it.
I'm apparently in the minority here, but I gave zero shits about Y2K beforehand beyond a mild curiosity of whether anything would actually happen. And when nothing happened I continued to not give a shit.

Nah some of us were already working. Plenty of IT work was done by kids in high school back then. I definitely remember replacing some servers because of it.

Millennials didn’t have any connection to 9/11 either, but living through the chaos is still bad enough.
I knew Y2K wasn’t going to be the predicted apocalypse, but the stress of dealing with people who did (like my mother) was real.
