I had never heard of this guy before, and I still have never heard him speak. I don't even know what he does, or where I would find it, and I don't care.
This guy has zero influence on my life, and zero influence on MOST people's lives. MAGAs can shout his name as much as they want, at the most what they'll do is get their own followers to listen to him, because normal Citizens don't, and don't care. He does not speak for those fighting MAGA.
As long as we are letting MAGA decide the subject matter for discussion, the Dems are LOSING. Everytime MAGA floats some potential boogeyman as a wedge issue, we need to ignore it, and keep the subject on affordability, the war, corruption, AI, data centers, corruption, Flock cameras, surveillance, ICE, Israel, corruption, Epstein Files, incompetence, war crimes, corruption, etc.
The Dems need to take control of the message, and keep it laser-focused on the real issues, and not let MAGAs hijack it with their propaganda and nonsense.

So here’s the problem, Hasan’s community were instrumental in the election of Zorhan Mamdani and Abdul El-Sayed. Hasan is successfully pushing those issues which you and I agree are the real issues. The Democratic Party establishment is siding with MAGA against Hasan because they don’t want to address those issues; anymore than MAGA wants to address those issues.
Hasan represents what it looks like when those real issues push their way into the mainstream from the outside. That’s why they’re misrepresenting his positions. Anybody who pushes their way in on the real issues will get the same pushback from the DNC and republicans that Hasan has gotten.
Biden didn’t pass Medicare for all, he said he would veto it.
When the DNC had the opportunity to pass progressive legislation in the 2020-2022 cycle they hid behind the senate parliamentarian — an unelected bureaucrat.
Democrats aren’t on our side, they will only act as much as we force them to act, Hasan is not a perfect person but he is rhetorically skilled, and he has successfully leveraged those skills to begin to force their hand. That’s why they’re attacking him.
I do recomend you watch some the mainstream media interviews with him that have recently done the rounds. Because though he is at the center of this controversy, its not really about him.

We should probably start making a distinction between Dem candidates and the DNC. You probably mean the latter. As for the Dem candidates, that’s far less certain and here’s why.
Outside a minority running as establishment candidates (mostly incumbents) the DNC is struggling to maintain influence. Even the non-DSA wins have shifted heavily to local issues in their campaigns and distanced themselves from DNC priorities. Mainly this is because DSA has been on a big winning streak with that strategy, and D candidates want to win. But it’s also because the DNC blew a huge amount of its warchest on several key primaries that they lost.
In other words, the DNC has not only tried and repeatedly failed to secure wins for its candidates (a bad losing streak that doesn’t inspire confidence) but now the DNC has even less money that it might have otherwise proffered to keep candidates in line. Of the funds remaining, much of it has been marked toxic by candidates in key races, meaning even if the DNC offered it for free they couldn’t accept it.
Candidates are the ones campaigning. They have the mic and can choose whether to share it with the convention leadership by towing party lines. Since the DNC has less to offer this year, and in many races might hurt more than help, there may be far less mic sharing than usual.

Perhaps the usual incompetence by the DNC has led to leaving enough open air that the DSA could actually get their message across, exactly at the time when people were desperate to hear something that gives them real hope (not Obama Hope). We've been screaming for M4A for decades, trying to get their attention, and they just won't look our way. Then the DSA says "I got you brother," and we're supposed to to ignore them, even though it works literally everywhere else on the planet?
My loser congressman was one of those eight loser Dems who signed that anti-Socialist propaganda letter from MAGA a few weeks back. You think he's going to support M4A?
The DemSocs are working for us, the DNC is working for MAGA. The DemSocs have to Tea Party the Democrat Party and take it over.

I’m convinced it is finally happening. A bit late, but I think people are finally getting the memo. DSA won ~1/3 of the congressional primaries and over 2/3 of the local and state primaries. In two years, we’ll have more seats to primary and will finally be able to take over the DNC. But for now, I’ll happily settle for old guard DNC’s relegation to obscurity, though it’s better than they deserve.

I see this correction a lot around here. I think it misses the point, because in a Red vs Blue system, whichever party replaces old Blue, in part or whole, is still called Blue. Obviously that is OP’s intended meaning.
For example, tea party libertarians, Christian nationalists, and MAGA populists basically took over the GOP, replacing old school Neo-cons fiscal conservatives etc, but everyone still calls them Republicans. Likewise, the DSA candidate Zohran Mamdani ran in the primaries as a Working Families / Democrat candidate, and in the general election as a Democrat.
When someone refers to future Dem strategy on Lemmy IME you can safely assume they agree that old Dems suck, and they need no additional reminders, as if they haven’t been paying attention for over 20 years. They’re referring to what happens next, the new party we elect to replace the old do-nothing status-quo controlled-opposition Democratic Party. I hope that makes sense.

Also, a separate but very important thing to bear in mind, if any of the groups I mentioned, including tea party, Christian nationalists, and even Trump, had tried to run third party instead of taking over the GOP from the inside, each would have fallen flat on its face, and the Republican Party today would still be fielding candidates like John McCain and Mitt Romney.
The same applies to the Democrats. Voting third party or not voting at all in general elections won’t fix the Democratic Party. The primary way to do that is voting in primary elections or pestering your existing representatives who aren’t up for reelection this year.

The hilarious part is Hasan Piker is a brilliant speaker, the more they fear monger about him the more popular he will get. These idiots picked basically Bernie Sanders 2.0 in rhetoric to try to portray as dangerous and radical and they literally could not have picked a worse target for their strategy.
You don't have to like the guy, but the idea he endorses violence, radicalism or antisemitism (he DESPISES antisemitism) is blatant disinformation.

I hadn’t heard of him until a few days ago when a lemming tried to convince me he was a DSA representative in order to demonstrate why “DSA types” were “brainrot.” Like this lemming knew nothing about DSA, whose candidates have been winning elections and primaries in the news, but was super familiar with this twitch commentator who I had never heard of, such that he considered him DSA’s most prominent representative, in spite of Piker’s lack of affiliation or involvement. Still scratching my head over it.
