Ski resort industry urges lawmakers to reject daylight saving legislation that would “lock the clock”

Emil Sante, a 30-year patroller at Telluride ski area, said the legislative proposal was “not a big deal.”

“We actually adjust the opening and closing times as the days grow longer and we have done this as long as I can remember,” Sante said. 

Crested Butte Professional Ski Patrol Association president Reid Pritchett said the union doesn’t have an official position because the patrol’s avalanche control and operations work has always been limited by daylight as well as a host of state and federal regulations.

So the ski patrol, the people in charge of safety on the mountain, don’t care and even claim that the opening times currently change depending on how much daylight is available.

The number of daylight hours during the day doesn’t change from one winter to the next, the amount of hours during the day doesn’t change so I still fail to see the problem.

The resorts claim that they would be open from 10am-4pm but they close at 4pm now. With an extra hour of sun, couldn’t they stay open until 5pm?
